In my room I sat down on a chair and buried my face in my hands. Now, somehow my mood was off. I heard my phone ringing, it was daadi telling me to come upstairs to the party, that everyone was waiting. I hanged up. I didn't want to go and see him again. In seconds my excitement to meet people was shattered. But then I calmed myself and went to the party.
When I entered, it seemed like an intimate gathering. Close relatives only I thought. Acoustic music was playing in background. Grand ma then introduced me to several people. I don't even remember the names of most of them cuz my mind was wandering somewhere else. Suddenly, everyone started clapping, I turned to look in the direction. A girl entered, she was young, olive-skinned, with black long hair. She had worn a sea green salwaar kameez. Simple and really pretty. "Isn't she beautiful?", Grandma hushed in my ear. Yeah, I had to agree.
Shivin entered after her, with a smile on his face. He started introducing her to everyone. I don't know why I felt really awful about her being so close to him. And in another moment I felt ashamed of being jealous of a girl I saw few seconds ago. Soon they were approaching us to introduce. I least wanted to meet them in fact I wanted to run faraway but then I managed to fake a smile at her. Introducing the bride to be as Kavya, turning to daadi Shivin said "she's my grandma from Jaipur and he's my cousin, Ayaan." Kavya smiled and greeted my grandma with a Namaste. Grandma beaming all over with joy hugged her instead and gave her blessings.
I said,"Hi!"awkwardly. I turned away to look at Shivin to find him already staring at me as if he knew I wasn't comfortable meeting her.
All through the party Kavya was the centre of attention and Shivin accompanied her. Almost everyone talked to them and she felt like a person of the family. It didn't even feel like she was meeting all these people for the very first time. We briefly interacted during dinner, she wasn't too shy and was easy to talk with. How can someone not envy her flawlessness. Shivin and Kavya were a perfect match I thought. I looked like a nobody.
We all were very tired by the end of the day and so I bid everyone good night and went to bed.
