A/N: Heyo readers!!! Here's the weekly chapter! It's a bit of a filler but the wedding chapter will becoming very soon!
“That was beautiful but… depressing. Let’s watch something a little more light hearted like, You’ve Got Mail.” Brooke suggested as she ejected my DVD of A Walk to Remember from the player. Shortly after the rehearsal dinner was over, I went over to Brooke’s house to spend the night. Instead of having the typical wild, alcohol and male stripper filled pre-wedding night, I settled on having a girl’s night in complete with sappy chick flicks, greasy New York slice pizza and eating ice cream straight from the tub. What better way to celebrate your last night being single???
“Sounds good to me. Can you pass the pizza box?” I asked , curling my feet up under me. Brooke shook her head in a very disapproving manner. “Oh no Erin. You are walking down that aisle to tomorrow and you look great in that dress. It’s my duty as your loving little sister and your devoted maid of honor to not allow you to look bloated when you walk down the aisle.” She replied adamantly. I folded my arms across my chest. “Please Brooke. Just one slice?? Please? Pretty please with a cherry on top??” I begged like a little child. I’d had a craving for pizza for a few days now and once I got my hands on it I couldn’t seem to help myself. “No Erin. No means no! You’re already eaten nearly one box for yourself. Geez. What’s up with you? You act like you’re pregnant.” Brooke replied.
I huffed once again folding my arms over my chest. “Fine. Enjoy your stupid Meg Ryan and Tom Hanks all by yourself. I’m going to sleep.” I replied sharply curling up in a ball on the sofa. Brooke giggled softly. “Wow. What’s got you so uptight Ms. Grumpy butt?” She asked. Well, in addition to being denied my precious pizza I was feeling a little upset and worried about Michael. I felt like he was harassing me in a way. He wouldn’t let the issue go. I tried telling him it was too late for anything to happen between us be he simply wouldn’t listen. I didn’t know how to get through to him and I was afraid that he’d ruin the wedding tomorrow.
I got out of my fetal position and sighed. “Can I tell you something Brooke?” I asked turning to face my little sister. Brooke tucked a stray strand of hair from her face. “Absolutely. You’re my sister. You can tell me anything.” She replied. I sighed grabbing a pillow from the couch and holding it close to my chest. “Well you have to promise not to tell anyone.” I declared. Brooke placed a hand on her heart and held up her right hand. “I swear I won’t. Now what is this about?” She asked. I took a deep breath. “It’s about Michael.” I replied. “He’s been coming onto me very strong lately.” I replied. An annoyed expression swept over Brooke’s beautiful face and her thick eyebrows rose. “When you say coming on strong, how strong do you mean?” She questioned. I sighed “He’s not making any advances toward me but he wants me to call off the wedding and be with him.” I finished reluctantly.
Brooke’s eyebrows furrowed in confusion “Wait, what?? Where is this coming from?” She asked grabbing her own pillow and clutching it to her chest. She seemed more intrigued in the conversation. I sighed. If I was going to tell Brooke this I’d have to come clean about a few other things. “Brooke, I never told you this, but a few months before you and Michael finalized your divorce, he told me about it.” I declared. Brooke groaned. “He told me that you all weren’t compatible anymore and that he knows that he messed up when he decided to marry you instead of me.” I continued softly. An expression of contempt settled on Brooke’s pretty face. I didn’t know if I should continue. She looked down right mad. We’d just mended our relationship and I didn’t want to bring up any ill feelings.
“Why didn’t you tell me?” She asked. I sighed. “Because, you’d think that Michael and I had been fooling around since day one of your marriage. At first, I liked the idea of having the chance to get Michael back. It was still something that I wanted. But when he said that I couldn’t truly believe him. There were no divorce papers in sight and every time you guys were around each other you acted all lovely dovey. He was just stringing me along and I refused to be the other woman, especially with my own little sister involved. Shortly after that Jacob arrived and the rest was history.” I finally finished.
Brooke was silent for a while before letting out a long sigh. “Well what are you gonna do? Are going to walk down the aisle tomorrow or be a run - away bride?” My sister challenged. I sighed. “Brooke, I love Michael and at one point I was in love with him. But now it’s all just platonic. Any chances of us being together are over now. It’s too late.” I replied. Brooke shrugged. “Well, not really. If you didn’t want it to be.” She replied. I took a deep breath. It was time to come clean. “Brooke, I’m pregnant.” I declared.
I’d found out a little more than a week ago. That was the explanation for my nausea, fatigue and mood swings. I was very shocked and a bit scared considering that I was an older woman but at the same time I was happy. I was getting married and having a baby with the man I love. It would be a big change but it was certainly a beautiful surprise.
Brooke's beautiful face lit up and she gasped loudly. “Oh my gosh!!!! I knew something was different about you!!! Wow!! You must be thrilled!!!! This is all so timely!! My sister’s having another baby!!!!” She squealed in classic Brooke style. I smiled widely. “I am excited. It’s as if one good thing after another keeps happening to me.” I beamed. “So does Jake know? Have you told him?” Brooke asked. I shook my head. “I plan to tell him tomorrow. It’ll be my wedding gift to him.” I grinned. Brooke smiled. “I’m so happy for you Erin. Tomorrow’s gonna be great.” She declared. My smile fell slightly. “But what about Michael? What if he stops the wedding and professes his love for me?” I asked. Brooke put her arm around me. “He won’t Rin. Tomorrow is going to be perfect , everything you envisioned. Just wait and see.” She assured me. I smiled. “Thanks.” I replied.
There was a comfortable silence between us two until I spoke. “So, now that you know that I’m eating for two now, may I please have another slice of pizza??”Brooke smiled while rolling her eyes. “Fine, my little niece or nephew needs nourishment .” I grinned triumphantly as I opened the box. “Now I definitely know tomorrow’s gonna be great."
