"she's getting smarter" Anthony remarks, as if she wasn't already a genius.

she basically has straight A's in all her classes.

"Are we gonna do it soon?" Gabi asks, she's on her phone again.

Aspen is long gone down hallway and we're on our way to class.

"no" i reply quickly

"Chase literally shut up. it was your idea and you KNOW she deserves it" Gabi puts her phone in her back pocket

"Party next saturday" Anthony says

i don't remember being invited to any party, or even hearing about one...

"what party?" i ask

"your party bro" Anthony shrugs and pats me on the chest twice before walking away with Gabi.

"Miss Elise" the teacher says, aspen looks up and meets eyes with him.

"Mr. Hudson" he adds, now all eyes are on me

"i hope you learned your lesson in detention yesterday and your actions will continue no longer" He raises his eye brows and we both nod.

i look back at aspen

her hair is in a braid today, something i rarely see her in, and she's got a hoodie on.

the teacher starts talking about...i don't even know what so i turn back around and place my hands on the lined pages of my empty note book.

"why aren't you writing anything down?" Anthony asks, he sits beside me.

Anthony is book smart.

"Mr. Hudson and Mr. Reeves" The teacher aces his hands on his hips and stands in front of our desks.

his hand slams down on my empty notebook

"does anyone have notes that Chase could borrow?" he asks to the class

"perfect Miss. Elise, thank you" he says, which catches me by surprise.

i turn around to face her and her eyebrows are raised at me.

"i'm not a horrible person" i hear her whisper.

of course she's not.

if anything i'm the horrible person.

the teacher grabs Aspens notes and places them on my desk.

they are neatly organized and colour coded.

wow.

i start copying them down.

"i can't have a party this weekend" i say as we walk down the hall

"of course you can Chase" Gabi smiles, her fake smile, at me.

"hey what about you and that kid josh?" i ask

"baby" Gabi whines

"nah" i shake my head

"bro get over it, it's one hookup" Anthony shrugs

"nah. i'm done. done with the partying, done with Gabi, done with being someone i don't want to be" i blurt out

i need to leave for the day

i start to walk out of the school when i see her outside the big glass doors.

i slowly push the left one open and she moves over when she sees me.

"hey" i whisper and stand on the opposite side of the doors to her.

silent

"hey look i-" i start but she starts walking away

"Aspen..." i start to walk after her

"i don't want to get hurt anymore" is all she says but she doesn't even look at me

"i'm sorry about what i said...about Kiara. and everything else"

"you're just going to sum up broken bones, hospital trips, scars, bruises, bloody noses and even more into the 'everything else' category?"
she asks

i knew that we weren't nice to her but i didn't know she broke anything

"Aspen i really am sorry-"

"ok" she says and keeps walking

"i'm going home" i try to change the subject

"cool" she shrugs

"wanna go get food?"

"i'm not hungry"

"you didn't eat lunch though..." i raise an eyebrow

"woah what are you the FBI?" she rolls her eyes

"you gotta eat something Aspen" i nudge her shoulder but she flinch away from me quickly.

"i don't wanna get food" she responds plainly and then takes a hard right turning down a street i hadn't been on before.
