Aga was smacking the ring of the steering wheel and honking the horn impatiently as they drove past the other cars to reach the hospital. This is the third stoplight they had stopped at and it's draining his patience. They've been on the road for nearly 15 minutes and it felt as though ages for him. He opened the window on his left and tilted his head out to check the road. The dawn is just coming so the traffic flow is not as static during rush hours, which he could thanked for but the case they were in just displeased him. The sight of his daughter fighting for air terrifies him, let alone his wife. He couldn't remember when was the last time they were put in this kind of panic-stricken situation. One more stop and they could finally get in the hospital. Had it been in rush hour, God forbid for what he could do.
Lea who's supporting Lianne at the back seat looked at him. She occasionally checks the road outside. She kept tucking her daughter's hair at the back of her ears, she even asked Aga to adjust the air conditioner up to get warmer, cold air can exasperate the asthma attack.
Again, she heard him beeped the car horn consecutively so she spoke up to stop him. "Aga please. You might get in trouble, that's not helping—" she stopped in the midst when she heard Lianne gasping and coughing as if the nebulizer is not helping anymore.
"Sweetheart? You have to relax... stay awake... we are near the hospital." she tapped her face upto her neck with a hand towel she secured on her bag, carefully not to hurt her. Lianne's face is slightly soaking wet for tears and sweat from crying. Lea noticed her hands were quite shaking so she put down the towel and firmly held them. She even pulled her closer to her for more contact.
"Everything will be alright. You'll feel better... you'll feel better." she kept whispering to her ears to keep her awake. Lianne is not responding though, her tight grip on her legs was enough for an answer.
"We're near... hold on." she was supporting her head against her.
Aga hastily turned left, one more block and they'll get to the hospital.
"Lianne? Lianne?" Lea tapped Lianne's face when she noticed her not moving and unresponsive. She can no longer feel her tight grip on her thigh. Her hands were lifeless lying on her lap and her eyes went shut.
"She's unconscious... Oh God! Aga..." she uttered breathlessly, she's extremely nervous she could hear her own rapid heartbeat. She checked the road again and a heaved sigh of relief came out from her mouth.
Aga glanced at his daughter shortly and stopped the car at the opening of the hospital, there's no time to park on the right space. He went out of the car and opened the backseat door to take his daughter. He carried her and Lea followed as he ran inside the hospital and called for an emergency.
"She fainted on the way. She also have rashes down her chest." Lea immediately informed the staffs who attended them. She's worried the situation turned a lot worse.
Nurses came to them immediately and helped their daughter sat upright on a gurney, the other was supporting the mask on her face, some doctors came after them too. It is frightening to see for Aga, more so now for Lea as it is the first time she ever saw someone at this state, much more her daughter, Lianne looked pale and her skin is clammy. Hard as it might be for Lea but she needs to stay calm.
"No pulse."
They heard one of the doctors said minutes after they stopped inside the cubicle, as the other tried to put an IV to their daughter. Lea attempted to walk closely to the cubicle curtain but Aga stopped her, he grabbed her to his chest and there she silently weeps. One of the young ladies in a soft green scrub, removed the mask on Lianne's face and a man on a light blue scrub started to do a procedure they don't understand at first. Then eventually they realized, their daughter was being intubated.
