"It's not a navigation system per se, more like a way to find yourself back in MossClan," Willowberry explained. "See, you just tie two vines together. We'll get this done in no time."
Robinflight watched as Willowberry demonstrated how to tie the two vines together. She did it quite elegantly and gracefully, tightening the knot in a final pull.
"Easy."
Robinflight started to tie her first two vines together. In a few twists it was already all fumbled up in a tangled bunch. She struggled with it for a few seconds, before giving up once she realized it was practically impossible to fix it. "I think I ruined it," She said.
"Just cut the knot off and tie the remaining two ends together," Willowberry explained calmly, tieing the ends together. Her knot was much better than Robinflight's, that was for sure. "Here, try a new vine."
Robinflight took two new vines and tied them together, and although the knot was a bit messy and uneven, it wasn't a tangled mess like last time.
"Like that...?"
"Like that! Good!" Willowberry said.
"R-really?"
"Yeah, it's good for a beginner's knot. Not many cats know how to tie knots, so I don't expect you to tie the best knot in the world."
"Oh. Can I tie another?"
Willowberry nodded her head, and Robinflight grabbed another two vines and tied them together. Once again, the knot wasn't as perfect as Willowberry's, but it was sturdy and would do.
"So what's your plan for these?" Robinflight asked while trying another knot.
"The leader of the search party will have one end tied around their paw, and the other end tied to a rock in the leaders then. When they have to come back up, we just tug on the vine from our end, and if they need to come up, they just tug on the vine from their end. There's a lot of flaws, but we'll fix it as we go," Willowberry said. "Now, I have to go and check on the search parties. Are you okay trying knots by yourself?"
"I'm not a kit," Robinflight joked. "I can be here by myself."
Willowberry smiled. "Sure. I'll be back soon."
"Wait!" Robinflight blurted out without thinking. Willowberry, who had already began to walk away, turned to stare at the reddish-brown she-cat. "I have a question."
"How important is it?"
"Not important at all."
Willowberry thought for a moment, then sat down. "Ask away."
"Where did you learn to tie knots?"
"Every medicine cat in MossClan learns it. None of the other clans though, so don't tell them you learned, 'kay?" Willowberry answered.
"Why can't I-"
"I-I don't really know why, but my teacher told me that I shouldn't. Something about tradition, and MossClan being more advanced or something, I don't know the details. Just don't."
Robinflight would've usually asked more questions, but this was Willowberry, and she trusted her. Plus, they were on a good streak, and she didn't want to break it.
She went back to tying knots, a bit prouder that it was only her clan that knew how to do it.
