"Do you know something? They were the only friends I ever had. We got into trouble."
"Y/N-ah," Chan began quietly. "You should be careful when you speak English around here. More people speak it than you think."
You squinted at your friend who was whispering in his adorable Australian accent that you missed oh so much. You and the other English speakers had always tried to copy it, even the non-English speakers.
He hated it.
"Well are any of the English speakers here right now?" you crossed your arms at the taller man standing on the race cars.
He sighed in exasperation.
"No," he spoke in Korean. "But that's not the point."
When the children raised in the gang were old enough, they had a choice. They could learn a foreign language, take advanced math courses, or take acting classes.
Foreign languages for overseas deals and communications.
Math for accounting and payment deals.
Acting for undercover missions and manipulation purposes.
You along with many others chose to learn a foreign language.
"Look," you began in English, which is the language most of the children who chose to learn a foreign language wanted to learn. "I will be careful to speak English around large groups of people. But, right now, you two need to take me to The Pantry or whatever the fuck it's called. I'm hungry and we need to talk."
The two men looked at each other before nodding at you. They led you back towards the basement's basement and Chan typed in the code '134340' into the box once again.
The cabinet was two doors to the left upon entering the hallway.
"Hey, Chris?" you called for his attention.
"Yeah," he responded pulling out a key card similar to the one Bobby used to enter The Tree Trove.
"How come you have access to this room but Bobby didn't?" you asked your friend as he opened the door of the room with the spray-painted doors. "The card doesn't work for every room?"
"The only people with access to certain rooms are the people who provide for them... and the people who run all of Hell," he explained stepping into the room. "I work at a grocery store, so I use my employee discount to stalk this place up. Hell gives me the shopping money and pays me to do it."
You followed behind the Aussie into the room and gaped in amazement.
The room was similar to The Tree Trove in that there was a kitchen and a table with couches surrounding it. But, it was different in that instead of weed and alcohol everywhere, there were food and drinks everywhere. Everything from Fruity Pebbles to Shrimp chips.
