The sun peeks through the blinds of my room the next morning. It's no later than 9 from the way the sun is entering the dark room. I go to sit up, but my arm is underneath another body next to me. It takes me a moment to remember that it's just Cate. She stirs just as I get it out from under her.
"What time is it?" Cate sits up and moves her hair out of her face. I actually look over at the clock, my assumptions confirmed.
"About 8:45," Cate glances towards me and gently rubs the sleep out of her eyes. If I'm being completely honest, she looks incredibly cute.
"I'm gonna make us some breakfast. Is that okay?" I get out of bed and stand at the edge, waiting for her response.
"Of course. Would you like my help?" I walk over to her side and nod.
"Yeah!" I stop for a second, seeing she's only in a bra, and my state as well. I walk across the room to my clothes, grabbing a pair of underwear.
"You can borrow a shirt if you want," I look over as I'm slipping them on. She nods as she brings one of the blankets closer to her chest. I look over in my closet and toss her one of my oversized shirts I thrifted forever ago. She quickly pulls it over her head.
I notice her panties as I'm walking out of the room. So I pick them up and show them to her. Cate quickly takes them from my hand and blushes. I turn around to give her a little privacy to let her feel presentable. Walking into the kitchen, I get to work.
Cate walks in behind me as I'm looking through all my food to see what I could make. I feel Cate trail her fingers on my shoulders before kissing my head.
"Let me make it for you. You've been working way too hard," I turn around and am met with her face surprisingly close to mine. I hesitate, not knowing what to do next. Cate moves first thank god.
"It looks like you have all the ingredients for crépes. Would you be interested in that?" She opens the fridge and starts taking stuff out.
"Yes. That would be perfect," I move out of her way and sit down at the table. She is moving around the kitchen mixing and flipping crepes. Within about 15 minutes she is placing down a plate in front of me. We soon get to talking, our conversation properly deepening now that we had more time.
"He's usually gone about a week out of every month. I don't mind, I usually like the alone time I get because of it. Yet whenever he is home... I don't know. I love it when he's home, it's just never absolutely amazing you know?"
"Both in and out of the bedroom?"
"Yeah. I feel guilty saying it. He's never treated me horribly or any way other than how I should be treated. It's just... it just doesn't feel right anymore..." I set down my fork and push my plate out of my immediate way.
"Have you done anything about it? Like talking with him directly? Or going to couples therapy?"
"Yeah, but that was years ago. Things have been the same, a better same, since then. So what's to fix?" Cate's demeanor changes. I slide over so I'm sitting next to her and place a hand on her shoulder as a sign to show I'm here for her.
"Well, what do you want to do right now?" She briefly organizes her empty plate as well as mine so it's easier to clean up.
"I could go for a shower if I'm being completely honest," I chuckle before laying my head on her shoulder.
"I don't mind. Towels are in the plastic storage bin in the shower," She looks over at me for a second before turning away.
"Thank you," She kisses my head and stands up. I can't help but admire her barely covered ass as she takes the couple steps to the bathroom. Even though we are basically the same size, she is still taller than me.
I take the time alone to clean up the table and kitchen from breakfast. It isn't long till I hear the water start running. I finish cleaning up and head to my room to get dressed. I notice my laundry basket is almost full, so I make a mental note to put it in the bathroom after Cate gets out. I don't have a washer or dryer, and I only have my motorcycle so I can't take it to a laundromat, so I just wash my own clothes in the small tub I do have.
I am putting on a new bra as the water turns off. My black, ripped, skinny jeans and lacy bralette making an interesting outfit choice. I decide to put on a muscle tee with the sides basically nonexistent to keep the complementary lace visible. I don't notice the water stop or Cate walking back into my room. When I turn around, I basically hit the roof.
"Oh my god, I didn't mean to scare you!" I rest my hand on my chest and relax my body.
"It's all good," I smile and shake my head lightly. I pick up my laundry basket and walk out of the room and into the bathroom.
"Do you hand wash your dirty laundry in the shower?" I look behind me after placing the basket in the tub.
"I do actually. I don't have the money for the laundromat. Even when I do I can't transport it there," I stand in front of Cate, who is standing in the doorway. She has changed into her clothes from last night, her hair still damp from her shower.
"Well why don't you wash it at my place? I can give you a ride since I have my car. If you would like of course," she quickly ends her offer with a cover. Again, who am I to decline.
"That would be helpful, thank you," I find myself genuinely thankful for her offer. Her face softens and then brightens again. She silently tells me to stay out and disappears for a second before appearing again. She holds out her hands, the money she promised me for the night in her hand. I take it, and put it in my pocket.
"Let's load up the car now," she smiles and motions for me to follow with all the stuff I need. Within a few minutes I am sitting in the passenger side of her car.
The sun is up, and the day has begun.
