Amanda
We kept our word to each other. It's only been two weeks since we decided we needed a friend, but it feels like I've known Royal forever. They try and help get my mind off Cate by taking me on stupid adventures, which is hard to do in this small town.
I lay in the couch in the dark, hoping I'll finally succumb to the temporary death sleep brings. For some reason my mind is lit up with thoughts and won't let me finally have my peace for the night.
Lights stream through the closed blinds of the still trailer. I sit up and try to see who is parking near my home at 2am. A car door slams closed, I can't help but recognize the intensity of the slam.
I stand up and walk to the front door and open it. Royal is about it bang on the door. They push past me and lean on the counter, an intense look on their face.
"So these past two weeks we've known each other I've picked up on a few things," they cross their arms and look at me with a mischievous look. "The only thing you can talk about when given the chance is Cate. So we're gonna do something about it"
I blink a couple of times before they take my hand. Bringing me to my neglected bed. I sit down on the edge as they stand in front of me with my closet behind him.
"What are you doing, Royal?" I cross my arms and glare at them as they get on their knees in front of me.
"You are going to her. Tonight,"
"What!" I shoot up, about knocking them over, "how would that even be possible?" I walk over to the window and lean against the frame. Royal stands up and struts over to me, placing hands on my shoulders so I'll look them in the eye.
"Listen. You love her," I open my mouth to try and interject, "and before you say anything, please," they step back, "just trust me. You need to at least get an explanation from her.."
Royal had this tone in their voice that helped me move. I quickly got dressed, making sure I wore a couple pieces Cate told me she liked. Royal said it would be better to take the bike so if we needed to we could make a fast get away.
My heart is pumping in my ears the entire way to Cate's. I had to look it up first, but I could remember most of the way anyway. I stopped and let the engine idle a walkable ways from the mansion.
"Wish me luck..." I get off the bike and smile slightly at Royal. They give me a thumbs up before I turn and walk up towards the house. I use my phone as a flashlight, but only pointed towards my feet.
I obviously didn't think this through enough, I don't think Royal did either. How was I supposed to let Cate know I was here? Was I to try and break into the mansion? Was I to text her one last time? I was lost in thought not paying enough attention to my surroundings.
Lights turn on inside the house. Through the open curtains of the sliding glass doors, I see the outline of a tall blonde. The lights turn of and everything is still. I turn off my flashlight and start running towards the doors. I see Cate slowly leave the house in the moonlight and start running towards me as well.
We collide in a hug not too far from the house. Even though she is taller than my it feels like I'm who completely envelopes her. She takes hold of my jacket, and almost seductively, moves me against the house.
Cate looks down and our eyes meet. The moon illuminates her as I look over the face of the one I've fallen head over heels for.
"Amanda," I almost don't hear Cate say my name, she says it so quiet. "May I kiss you?" I look up at her, my excitement probably visible as I place my hands gentle on her cheeks.
"Of course you can," My hands move to the back of her neck and hers rest on my waist. We pull the other closer as our lips meet for the first time in a month. The energy and tension between us very much grew in each other's a sense.
"What took you so long?" Cate asks breathlessly as we rest our foreheads against each other's. I'm still breathing hard from running and the intoxicating kiss we just shared.
"Honestly, I didn't have the courage to come see you till tonight. I'm sorry it took so long..." Cate pulls me into a hug. She lifts me till I'm only on the tips of my toes. She hides her face in my shoulder and takes a deep breath.
"That's in the past. You're here tonight," I feel her lips kiss my head and she holds me tighter. Her pajamas fit her frame loosely. The fabric doing nothing to reduce the tension rising between us.
We start to sway slightly, as if we are dancing. The slight, graceful wind helping the process. I take Cate's hand and rest a hand on her waist. I look up at her and kiss her lips again and guide the two of us into a slow, steady dance.
We don't need music. The wind and the moon bring us the music we need. I hesitantly let my hand wander over her lower back. The tension between us is nonexistent.
"Run away with me Cate. We can disappear and never come back. I can tell you want to be more than friends, why don't we take the leap of faith together?" I don't think before the words come pouring out of me. My heart starts pounding and my palms start to sweat.
My heart is on my sleeve. The emotional vulnerability I'm feeling initiates my fight or flight response, but I ignore it. Looking up at Cate, the look in her eyes tells me everything I need to know.
Cate smiles down at me. She takes a deep breath, closing her eyes for a second. I know what I want her to answer, yet I can't help but get my hopes up.
Cate opens her mouth to answer,
