Chapter 7: The Kiss

Flint's POV:

As Kiwi bandaged me up, I noticed she smelled different. Like vanilla and honey suckle. Sweet. I breathed in and she stopped for a minute. I felt myself blush a little.

"Why are you smelling me?" She asked, tying off the bandage with a jerk.

"Ow, geez... why do you smell so nice?" I asked as a terrible comeback. The smell was almost addicting...

"Well, I had to take a shower earlier to get my fami-" she paused. "To get the zombie blood off me. As you know..." She finished referring to the incident. I saw her blush a bit and turn away, and I reached to grab her chin and who knows what, but suddenly the door slammed open.

We both jumped as Aly burst through.

"Ohhhh, when did you two get so snuggly!?" She said. I blushed and excused myself as Kiwi ran to her, punching her in the shoulder.

"We aren't, shut-up!" she said.

"Mm-hmm." Ten said, coming outside. Kiwi threatened to punch her to as I stood outside the front door.

"Stop, something's wrong..." Aly said. "I think someone's fighting..."

We all froze, trying to hear. We could make out scuffling and muffled noises from in the cabin. We all burst inside to a horrifying sight.

Wolf's POV:

"Why do we need this dumb little girl anyway? She's just holding us back. Just another mouth to feed. Yeah! If I just get rid of her now, there won't be any issues later. I'll tell everyone she was infected...yeah... ha...haha...besides.....she looks tasty....." I mumbled to myself. I think there's something wrong with me. Those two from earlier, the girls relatives.... they snuck up on us. I was bit, but I didn't tell anyone...I thought maybe I would heal, or something I guess. It's suffocating in here...to warm. Now I'm dying, and as far as I can tell, it's this stupid girls fault! Her and her stupid family...Omega thinks I'm just getting water...I'll just tell them-

"She's infected!!" I heard someone yell, but it was like they were in a tunnel. I don't know who it was. They all sound the same now. Oh, there's Aly! Suddenly there's a sharp pain in my neck and the world spins around really fast. Then everything started fading. I fell asleep to the sound of that little girl's cries.

Kiwi's POV:

Wolf is dead. I can't believe we didn't notice something was wrong. I look around to see Ten and Omega crying ad decide something in that moment.

"From now on we do nightly checks. Every night, and after every fight or encounter with those things, we check everyone for bites. That's final." Everyone nods in agreement. I go to Kaia's side and pull her into a hug, removing the makeshift gag Wolf had used to quiet her. We all check each other over for bites, luckily finding no more. With that done, Aly and Ten tell everyone that dinner is ready. Aly made beans as a side dish, and Ten made steak and salad. Luckily I'd picked up some dressing on the last trip, as we forgot to grab some before. We ate in silence because of what we had just witnessed. One of our friends...we just had to kill one of our friends.

After dinner I went to the couch and sat down. Flint came in after me and sat beside me.

"How's your cut...does it hurt?" I ask. He looks at me and moves his arm around.

"It's sore, but whatever medicine you used is working." He said.

"Good." I look away and start planning sleeping arrangements. Ten and Omega on the queen...Aly on the couch-bed...Flint on the single bed...and Kaia and I on the bunk beds.

Wolf and Omega would've gotten the queen... I start to tear up.

"Hey, are you okay?" Flint asks.

"Yeah...I'm good." I say, wiping the tears away.

"Liar...Wolf was infected...you don't have to feel bad. I know it's hard because she was our friend, but you have to understand that she was trying to kill one of us. She was turning into a monster...and it would've been cruel to let her." He grabbed my chin and turned me towards him.

"What are you-" I start, but I'm cut off by his lips pressing against mine. I was surprised at first, but something inside me sparked and I closed my eyes, kissing him back. Suddenly, he pulled away. I blushed,

"Sorry, I...I don't..." I try to find the words to apologize.

"No! No, ha, don't be sorry...I kissed you. Um......sooo...what now?" He asks.

"How about we don't tell anyone and just go on like normal." I wave my hand towards the window. "Well, as normal as it can be, considering circumstances. I'll go tell everyone to meet in here and we can go over sleeping arrangements. Then we should all rest...It's been a long day."

"Yeah...We can go back to the store tomorrow, since we didn't get much last time..." He responds, kind of sheepish. I gather everyone and tell them the arrangements, then I go tuck Kaia in, double check for zombies around the cabin, check on everyone in their beds. I finally go back to my bed and fall into a restless sleep.
