Song: you should see me in a crown - Billie Eilish---------------------------------------------------------
I follow Midoriya into the building, and we make our way into a large auditorium where all the examinees have gathered to hear the instructions. Midoriya begins muttering to himself as we take two open seats next to each other a few rows away from the stage.
I feel a pair of eyes boring holes into the side of my head. I turn to the right and lock eyes with the same ash blonde who scared the shit out of Midoriya. My heart immediately jumps into my throat and I can feel my face heat up. My arms prickle with that same electricity that has been bothering me all this morning. My breath hitches as Bakugo stares me down. Those intense crimson eyes daring me to make a move, like a predator who's finally cornered its prey.
Why is he staring at me like this? Must be sizing up the competition. What else would he want? We haven't even talked! I won't give him the pleasure of making me nervous.
I summon my courage, smirk at him and turn my head away. This must have been the worst move to make because, as Present Mic takes the stage, I can feel pure rage radiating from the seat next to me.
Holy shit! Holy Shit! Why did I do that! That is so unlike me. I don't know what came over me. I can't back down now. I have to be the best. Sorry Bakugo, but kiss my ass.
Present Mic explains the rules of the exam – kill robots and get points.
Sounds fun.
He turns our attention to the applicant identification cards that were given to all the applicants when we signed into the exam.
Mic explains that there are seven different battle centers, letters A through G. I lean over to the left to look at Midoriya's card – Battle Center B.
Bummer... I'm in Center A! So much for working with your new friend. T_T
I hear a deep growl on my opposite side and feel a sharp jab in the ribs. I turn back towards Bakugo with a glare of my own.
"What the fuck was that for?" I whisper angrily.
"We are in the same battle center, Shrimp. You're dead." He states confidently with a malicious grin.
Fuck. I can't deal with this guy. I have to keep my goals in mind. Everything else doesn't matter. Don't get distracted, you need to ace this exam and become a hero. Prove your worth.
"Stay out of my way. I don't have time to waste on you." I shoot back.
"Oi, you think you're better than—" Bakugo is cut off by a tall student with blue hair and glasses telling off Midoriya for muttering too loudly.
I give Bakugo one last death glare before attempting to get as far away from him as is allowed by the stadium chair. I lean closer to Midoriya, my arm brushing against his.
After the exam rules are conveyed and questions answered. We all file out into our respective arenas. I do my best to ignore Bakugo as he stomps off towards the door. I wish Midoriya luck and notice that his face looks really red.
"Hey, you ok there? You look like you might have a fever." I say as I examine his features closely.
"I-I'm fine! Just n-n-nervous!" He manages to squeak out. He takes a step back while waving his hands around in front of his face.
"Alright then... Well I'll catch you later then. Plus Ultra!" I cheer, pumping my fist in the air, hoping to boost his morale yet again. I head out before Midoriya has a real chance to respond.
After changing into my athletic gear (a black synthetic tank-top, and form fitting jogging pants, with fingerless black leather gloves) I join the group assigned to Battle Center A.
I scan my surroundings and notice that the center doors have opened and Present Mic is looking expectantly at the examinees from the roof of a nearby building. I smirk and run into the arena.
They must be testing our awareness. In a real battle no one says "go".
"HEY! GET BACK HERE!" Bakugo shouts from behind me followed by a loud blast of sound.
I need to lose him if I want to focus on getting points.
I place my hands on the ground and create a sapphire disk. It levitates in front of me and I step on, using it as a hoverboard to gain distance between myself and the other contestants. Once far enough away I begin my search for the test robots.
I turn a corner and come face to face with two 3 pointers. I jump backwards off my sapphire disk, shooting it towards the first bot, cleaving its head from its body.
"I guess I can go all out since I don't have to worry about hurting anyone."
I brace my arms in diamond and run towards the second bot. I dodge an attack and land a punch into its breastplate. The force crumples the metal inwards, releasing sparks and causing the robot to deactivate.
"That's 6 points – who's next?!" I shout, relishing in the strength of my quirk.
This continues for some time and I end up losing count around 32 points. I keep going despite obvious wear on my body from the physical excursion. I destroy a few more villain bots being careful not to over use my quirk, and notice a 2-pointer bot cornering some examinees. I jump onto the mech while it is distracted and punch an opening into its back, ripping out the wiring, and deactivating it. The robot goes down as I rush over to the group of students.
"Line up and I'll heal you." I say to the crowd as they gather around me. I form a thin emerald plate over both my palms and touch the wounds of the other candidates in turn. The gemstones glow as each student is healed and leaves to continue the exam.
"Why are you helping your competition?" Questions one of the healed students.
"I help people, because it is the right thing to do." I reply.
Just basic first-aid right now since I can't overuse my quirk.
When the last student is healed, I hear a huge explosion from somewhere behind me. I look over my shoulder to see the head of the 0-pointer towering over the buildings. The sheer mass of it intimidates me.
Damn, that thing is fucking huge. I am so happy it isn't looking my way.
I head in the opposite direction and am quickly surrounded by multiple mechs.
Shit, this might take all my remaining energy.
I close my eyes and take a steadying breath. I open my eyes and notice microscopic flecks of crystal sparkling in the air as I exhale.
Yeah this is my last move.
I bring my right foot up and slam it down, unleashing a glacier of diamond the size of the battle center's buildings into the surrounding mechs. Each bot is impaled by the gems, the force lifting them off the ground and rendering them useless.
I hear a gasp from behind me and spin around. In the alleyway stands Bakugo, his eyes wide with shock as he takes in the monument of robot carnage I just created. I feel a new confidence roll through my body at the sight of his priceless face.
I smirk, bringing my spread hand up above my head. I clench my fingers together into a tight fist and as I do the diamond wall behind me explodes into a shower of beautiful glitter.
Bakugo's face shifts into rage at the sight of the smug look on my face. My vision begins to blur and I stumble forward.
Shit. You damn show off Y/N! You've gone too far...
My ears start ringing loudly. There is a muffled bang somewhere and I can barely make out Bakugo as he somehow reaches me with incredible speed and catches me before I hit the ground.
Maybe it is a teleportation quirk, or super speed?
His arms wrap around me as I feel myself teetering on the edge of unconsciousness. I manage to look into those crimson eyes once more before my vision is captured by darkness.
Was that concern?
