Y/N, the daughter of a famous hero, lives her life in his shadow. She strives to prove her worth by becoming a hero. Will a hot-headed soulmate become the villain her father expects? Or will they be limitless?
Most of the days leading up to the UA Entrance Exam were spent training with Shoto. The perseverance paid off. I am definitely feeling stronger and prepared for the test, but I am still worried that even after all that it might not be enough. I mean this is UA - the top hero program in the country! One day of rest to let my body recover - and the test was finally upon me.
I get dressed in my middle school uniform, pack a change of work out clothes, and head downstairs. I'm surprised to see my uncle waiting for me.
"Good morning Y/N! I made breakfast so you can be properly fueled for the exam." Uncle Mata says as he looks up at me from the kitchen table. A plate of scrambled eggs, bacon, and hash browns call my name with a savory scent wafting in the air.
"Thank you, but I'm so nervous I am not sure that I'll be able to eat anything." I state.
Yeah and I didn't get much sleep either!
"Well try to eat something. Don't worry too much, you are a cut above the rest and won't have any problems getting in." Uncle Mata smiles brightly at me.
"Thanks for the confidence Uncle Mata." I sigh, wishing that I could feel as secure about this whole ordeal as he is. "By the way, I am surprised you were able to see me off today. Usually you are so busy with hero work that you are rarely home."
"It's not every day that your niece gets into UA!" Uncle Mata chuckles as he takes on his classic Best Jeanist pose with a twinkle in his eye.
"I haven't gotten in yet." I pout as I take a bite of my delicious breakfast. "...and thank you. I can't remember the last time someone made breakfast for me."
"You're welcome love. Don't worry. Things are going to get better. I promise." Uncle Mata says giving me a warm hug before heading towards the door. "Alright! I'm off to work. I won't be back for a few days. There is plenty of food in the freezer and what not. Call me the second you get your acceptance letter. Love you!" With that he leaves me to finish my breakfast.
I head out a little while after him. I was right, I just can't eat with these nerves already filling my stomach. I pop in my headphones and start heading towards UA. I am happy that Uncle Mata owns a home in Musutafu so that I can pretty much walk to school, but it is a bummer that he works in Tokyo and spends most of his time living at The Genius Office. I could get used to having a family. Even if it's just us. That's all I need.
As I walk, I notice my soul-marks start to burn slightly. I look down at the two black grenades that mark the inner side of each wrist. Both are about an inch and a half long, and sit directly underneath the crease of my hand.

Thinking back, the last time they burned like this was when I got them. It was around the same time that I developed my quirk. When I showed my father, he told me that it meant my soulmate had just developed their quirk.
"Grenades huh? Serves you right. Your soulmate will probably become some low life villain scum." Dad spat at me.
I push his words out of my head and focus on my music.
I walk towards the gates of UA High - the academy that has the best heroics course in all of Japan. It has a huge reputation for producing some of the world's best heroes. The number 1 hero: All Might went to the school along with several other top tier heroes. The attraction to attend the school's hero program is obvious as I look up to see a large number of students heading into the exam orientation building.
Stopping for a moment to look up at the impressive architecture, I am suddenly pushed from behind as a boy with curly green hair and freckles accidentally bumps into me. I stumble forward barely avoiding face planting on the front steps of my dream school.
Whew! That would have been some bad luck to fall before the test starts.
The boy panics after the unexpected contact and manages to squeak out some sort of an apology.
"It's ok. Really don't worry about it. You must have been lost in thought, and I was the dumbass that just stopped in the middle of the pathway. I'm very sorry." I say with a bow "My name is L/N Y/N, nice to meet you...ugh?"
"M-M-Midoriya Izuku! N-nice to me—"
"Outta my way, Deku!" cuts in a deep growl from behind us. Midoriya and I turn to see a tall strikingly handsome boy with spiky ash-blonde hair and piercing crimson eyes – which are currently glaring daggers into the broccoli beside me.
"Kacchan! M-morning. L-let's both do our best..." Midoriya sputters towards the blonde.
"Don't stand in front of me. I'll kill you." He replies as he pushes past Midoriya.
As he passes me our eyes meet and my heart skips a beat. A sharp pain originating from my wrists suddenly shoots through my arms, sending a tingle up my spine - leaving me frozen and breathless in its wake. As if noticing an insignificant insect, he looks me up and down, scoffs, and turns his head away.
As he moves towards the building he reaches up and rubs his left shoulder.
I wonder what's got his panties in a wad, or better said, who...
I rub my wrists to ease the tingling that has been bothering me all morning and turn back to Midoriya.
"Well fuck that guy. Who is that, and what the hell is his problem?"
"Oh that's just Kacch- I mean, Bakugo Katsuki. He goes to school with me and well we are sorta childhood...friends...?" He says sadly.
"Some friend he is...Whatever let's not let that asshole bother us. We gotta go ace this test!" I cheer trying to take Midoriya's mind off of his nerves.
"You're right L/N! I need to focus! I'm not the same person I was before. I need to take the first step of becoming a hero!" Midoriya states confidently while he takes a step forward, and immediately trips over his large red shoes. I watch helplessly as Midoriya's pure life flashes before his eyes. Instead of plummeting to the ground, suddenly he stops - hovering inches above the ground, a look of pure shock adorning his face.
"Wooah Midoriya you can float?!" I yell as the cinnamon roll starts to flail his limbs around in the unexpected weightlessness.
"Haha no, it's my quirk." Says an adorable girl with a brown jacket and pink scarf, who happened to be walking past Midoriya. "Are you alright?" She asks, rotating Midoriya back into a standing position and returning his feet to the ground. "Sorry for using it without asking first. But it'd be bad luck if you fell, right?"
Great minds think alike then – if I meet this person again I'll see about becoming friends.
"I-ughh-ughhh-mmmhh!" Midoriya short-circuits. The girl smiles sweetly at us both before wishing us luck and heading inside.
