CHAPTER SEVENTEEN
"20 laps. Come on," Hara ordered, as the team panted after they finished playing their last set for the day.
"Can you be more harsher, Watanabe?" one of her members asked, so she simply smiled at the girl while her hands were on her hips.
"What was that? Five more? Or was it 10 more?" The captain asked, making everyone groan. She was way too serious about training.
"I swear to God. What's gotten her like this?" Akari muttered under her breath, but they did the laps anyway.
Quite nervous, Hara led them out of the gym to run laps around the track. She didn't want to think about what was happening to her just yet, so she just resorted to running a few more laps. Doing so helped her clear out her thoughts most of the time, so she thought that jogging with the team could come off as training rather than her being confused. With Ushijima's actions as well, Hara found herself going crazy. She wanted to focus on her upcoming match with the team but her mind was being clouded by things such as Ushijima and whether her feelings were reciprocated or not.
Just behind her, Sai could tell that something was bothering the captain. She told herself that she'd talk to Hara about it after running laps, but they were all surprised when their captain suddenly halted and screamed her heart out. She even slapped her cheeks hard which made the girls stop in their tracks as well.
"What's going on?" Sai asked, crouching down to face Hara who furiously stared at the cerulean sky above them. "The rest of you, continue running your remaining laps."
"This is all that red-haired's fault, I swear. I was fine being oblivious," She replied, which only confused the other members with the exception of Sai. She knew fully well which red-haired would cause this.
As much as they wanted to stay and hear what Sai and Hara were going to talk about, they knew better than to anger both the captain and the vice captain.
"Is it Ten-"
Without being able to finish her sentence, Sai and Hara turned around when they heard someone speaking.
"Eh? Did I hear my name?" Tendou asked, appearing beside the two with a smug smile across his lips. Hara could only roll her eyes before hitting the back of Tendou's head. Sai, watching it happen, shivered.
"Ouch! What was that for?" Tendou asked, grinning even more.
"Can you wipe that smug grin off of your face? I'm getting pissed right now," Hara said, making Tendou and Sai flinch.
"What the hell did I do?" Tendou asked, tilting his head sideward, acting like a fool.
He'd be lying if he said that he didn't have at least a clue about what he supposedly did. He was sure that it had something to do with Ushijima. In the first place, Ushijima was the only reason that the two had to talk more than they ever did before. He even liked teasing and provoking the two oblivious captains during his free time. If he could earn whenever he teased and provoked the two, he probably would be damned rich.
"You shouldn't have told me about Wakatoshi, you idiot," Hara replied, which made Tendou smile mischievously. "I can't focus."
"Why? I just told you what I guessed. You know my guesses are scarily accurate, right?" Tendou said, making Sai hit the back of his head this time.
"What did you tell her?" asked Sai, and all Hara could do was sigh and close her eyes as she recalled what Tendou told her when she went out of the gym for a bit earlier.
"Oh, if it isn't Watanabe Hara," Tendou said, approaching the mentioned girl who was about to go back inside the gym.
"If it isn't Ryuk," Hara half sarcastically and half affectionately said, making Tendou narrow his eyes before finally standing next to her.
"Well, humans are interesting. Especially two captains who are oblivious about their feelings for each other," said Tendou with a chuckle, which only made Hara halt when she was about to leave the guy.
"Stop spitting nonsense, Tendou," said Hara, clenching her fist.
"Well, it's not me spitting nonsense. Wakatoshi and you should just confess already. Well then,"
Sai blinked, staring at Tendou and Hara. For once in her life, Sai wanted to agree with Tendou Satori.
"How can I even be sure that he likes me?" Hara asked, making Tendou's brows rise up. "You keep feeding me with thoughts, you find it amusing when I suffer."
"Wow, you're ahead of him. You actually acknowledge that you like him," Tendou teased, which earned him another smack on the back of his head.
"Can you keep it down, Ryuk?" Hara replied, making Sai snicker at the nickname.
"Ryuk? The Shinigami?" Sai asked, so Tendou narrowed his eyes at the vice captain.
"What? Ryuk is adorable."
"Shut up. Just go confess to him,"
"For once in my life, I actually agree with Yamamoto Sai."
"Who told you I want you to agree with me?!"
"Calm down, for goodness's sake!"
Hara let out a heavy sigh. Of course, when did Sai and Tendou actually agree on anything? As the two bickered on and on about who agrees with who and who doesn't, the captain furrowed her brows and stared at the floor. She actually wanted to do something about it but she was afraid she'd mess everything up. Besides, the match was coming up so she didn't need to be distracted with uncertainty about other things than volleyball.
"Ushijima needs something to make him fully realize that he needs to act on his feelings," Tendou told Sai, totally ignoring the fact that Hara was right there beside them.
"I've seen it in mangas and anime, we need to use an outside party to make him realize... Hmm..." Sai said, making Tendou nod slowly.
"I guess you're right," Tendou replied, which made Hara's jaw drop.
Did they actually talk decently and even agreed AGAIN about something? Was she witnessing the same duo?
"Wait, didn't you use to hang out with Oikawa?" Tendou asked, turning to Hara at last.
"Yeah? I did?" Hara replied, confused about what they were gonna do and why they needed Oikawa in the picture.
"Why don't you hang out with him anymore? You probably should. You'll probably meet him after the match,"
"Tendou, you're actually brilliant,"
"I know, Sai. You just don't know how to appreciate-"
"Shut up! Of course, I do!"
While the two continued their bickering, Hara furrowed her brows. Is that it? Are they planning on making him jealous and seeing if he will do anything about it? It sounded stupid, but it could work at least slightly. She wanted to slap herself for wanting to go along with their plan.
"Will this work?"
"We'll see, Hara,"
"This is stupid,"
"But might work and you know that. Come on,"
