Dehlaney POV

I would know what death is like, for I have died before. It's like icy cold water being poured onto your soul until you can't move, until you're absolutely numb and unmoving and the best you can do is stand there and wait until your heart decides to stop itself and take in your last breathe as it all disappears. But right as it does all the pain, physical mental and emotional, all your memories both good and bad come to the surface as you draw your last breath and that pain is something I never thought I'd face twice and for that I was happy.

But as I laid there, acid seeping into my skin feeling like my flesh was melting sending my brain into a sense of panic and frenzy despite me not being able to move, I preferred that pain any day. I could hear the pit crawlers drawing closer and Kida's cries as she to panicked. I understood exactly what she was feeling, that fear of being dragged into a world so complicated and vast without knowledge. She was so clueless and now she's been wrapped into this without escape. Like me, she only knew the half of it when she was throw into a love she didn't know.

Through blurred eyes, I could see her crouched over me, her face contoured in pain, but she never let go of me. I knew she was accepting the same thing that I was, death. It was inevitable and unavoidable. There was no such thing as immortality, one can die on the inside. One can die mentally and emotionally before they die physically and then be nothing but a walking shell of nothing.

The world began spinning and a small smile printed on my face as I accepted my fate. I felt Kida's grip on me loosen as a harsh glow emitted from her body. Then there was a silence, no snarling and growling, just pure stillness and I saw a silhouette, looming above Kida and I before my body finally gave in.

Sinclair POV

Heartbreak can be defined as overwhelming distress not always as a result of an individual but can also come from a situation and or action. I never understood what it was. All my life all I had to do was snap my fingers and things were dropped into my palm. I was a prince, woman dropped themselves at my feet and gave themselves to me for absolutely nothing. I was favored and chosen over everything else and back then, to me, it was the best thing. I loved it.

I loved my power and influence. I love the control I had over everything and everyone.

But these days, especially right now, I wished I was normal. I wished I was like everyone else, going on about their days with the love of their lives in their arms in a little house. They had normal jobs and lived serene little lives. I wish I had that and with Kida right by my side. I wish I could go back and be born a human with normal parents, they'd send me to a normal school and I'd be just another man living in this world who would have met the love of their lives and living a normal life with her. We'd start a family and of course there would be some ups and downs but I'd always be there for her.

Unfortunately, fate had other plans. I was born a demonic prince with a psychopathic mother and a pussy father who was easily controlled, surrounded by women who wanted me for power and status and I indulged in that thinking it was all well and fine. My indulgence led me to the upper realm where I met Kida and for the first time I actually felt something real and genuine for somebody. She was different and everything you would wish for in a woman, perfect in my eyes.

Obviously my happiness wasn't satisfactory to my wonderful mother and her little psycho follower and didn't fit into their plan for dominance and power and they conspired and ruined everything.

For once, for the first time, I had a home, a love. A love with beautiful brown eyes and a head of wild curly hair and a beautiful smile. Kida was the most understanding and selfless person I'd ever met. She loved family and was incredible both inside and out, and my selfishness got her wrapped up in all of my baggage. I knew I should've left her alone, but I wanted, needed, desperately craved some sense of belonging and love from someone and when I saw her that wonderful feeling in my chest and stomach was all I'd ever wanted.

Now she was only God knows where, we didn't know if she was alive or not. I'd taken away a daughter from their mother, a sister from their brother and a wonderful person from their best friend. She had hopes, aspirations, goals and dreams. Her life was just getting started and then I swooped in with all my fuckery and ruined everything as I usually do.

I hadn't moved from my spot in the study since I walked up here. My father had explained that my episode was my mind and body adjusting to the loss of my mate and the disconnection of the mate bond. Basically he told me that Kida was officially dead, it was the only way an official mate's mark can be broken. The study was bustling with people, my father and uncle were shouting at knights and general to get them to 'do their work'. I, personally didn't have the energy to even make a sound.

I was wearing one of my hoodies that Kida constantly wore. Her scent lingered in my nose and it made me feel sick. I finally understood exactly what heartbreak was, it was sickening and mind consuming, demotivating and exhausting, draining and disheartening in the worst mother fucking way, and there was no way to stop the inner turmoil that was straining on your mental and consuming you every second.
