Alec met up with Izzy, Jace and Clary in the security room.
"Let's see who fell for our little trick," Izzy said with a smirk as she went through the security tape.
The Institute had set up a fake necklace to distract the warlocks from the necklace's real location. Alec couldn't believe they had fallen for it. He guessed desperate times called for desperate measures.
Izzy continued to look through the tape untitl she saw it. A warlock agent grabbed the necklace and held it up triumphantly. "Silly Shadowhunters," he said. He looked way too full of himself. Alec could already tell he didn't like him.
He said something through a watch on his wrist, and after a few moments he was accompanied by two other warlocks. He couldn't see their faces, but when one of them spoke, he knew who it was immediately.
Magnus.
He voiced his concerns about the necklace being too easy to capture, but the smug one ignored him. I bet he's the one that feels silly now, falling for a fake necklace.
They leave, and Alec couldn't help but wonder how Magnus felt about breaking into his agency. Probably nothing, it was his job. Alec felt dumb for even thinking about it. He was sure he thought about Magnus way more than Magnus thought about him.
"Well, looks like our necklace is safe," Clary said and smiled.
"Yes, for now. And we have to make sure it stays that way," Jace said.
"Agreed," Alec said. He turned to leave the room. Seeing Magnus reminded him that it had been a while since they'd spoken. Technically, it'd only been three days, but it felt like it had been a long time.
He went to his room and checked his phone. No notifications. Maybe he should text Magnus instead of waiting for him? He wasn't used to doing that kind of thing, but he could try. He picked up his phone and found Magnus in his contacts. What should he say? How about hey, you idiot, Alec thought. Maybe Izzy was right about him overthinking stuff. He typed into his phone and waited for a reply.
