Alec:

Alec couldn't shake the feeling someone had been watching him. He kept looking over his shoulder, expecting someone to be staring at him with disgust, but he saw no one. Magnus noticed his unease and tried calming him.

"Alec, if you'd like to leave, it's fine." Magnus said.

"No, It's fine. I'm okay." Alec said. Magnus looked at him suspiciously. He didn't believe him, and Alec had to convince him to stay. He didn't want his own personal problems to be the cause of Magnus not enjoying himself tonight. So if he had to hide his worries, he would. For Magnus, he'd do anything.

"Magnus, stop worrying. I'm perfectly okay." Alec gave Magnus a smile to prove his point.

Magnus didn't say anything at first, he just looked at him, perhaps to see if he was lying if not. Finally, Magnus just sighed and said, "Okay."

"Okay?"

Magnus nodded.

"Let's enjoy ourselves, then."

***

Alec stumbled out of the club, with Magnus right by his side.

"I can't believe you did that." Magnus said with a shake of his head.

"Did what?"

"You threatened to fight the bartender."

"He was flirting with you."

"He asked me what kind of drink I wanted. It's his job."

"Yeah, but he was flirting when he asked you. Didn't you see it?"

"No, Alec." Magnus said, choking back a laugh.

"You're laughing at me."

"I'm not laugh-"

"I don't want other guys flirting with you. You're..." Alec trailed off, stopping himself.

"I'm what?" Magnus asked.

Alec shook his head, but he did so slowly. "Nevermind."

"Well, we need to get you home."

Alec nodded. "Yeah, but....I can get there okay by myself."

"Are you sure?" Magnus asked.

"I'm a Shadowhunter. I'll be fine."

Magnus rolled his eyes. "Okay, Alexander. But don't bother calling me when you wake up in a ditch somewhere."

"I'm not gonna pass out in a ditch." Alec grumbled, but then he imagined himself waking up in a ditch, and started laughing.

Magnus have him a deadpan look. "Goodnight, Alexander."

"Goodnight, Magnus." Alec leaned in and gave him a quick kiss, then turned around and walked away without another word.

***

Alec woke up and looked around. He was in his bed,and not in a ditch. Haha, Magnus. He decided to call Magnus and pretend to actually be in one. He went to Magnus' contact on his phone and called him. The phone ringed a few times, and Alec began to think Magnus might still be asleep, but then he picked up.

"Hello?"

"Um...can you pick me up?"

"Alexander, I told you not to call me. You shouldn't have been so stubborn like all you Shadowhunters are, and accepted my help. Where are you?"

Alec smiled. Magnus was pretending to be annoyed, but he knew he would come get him in an instant if he really was in a ditch.

"I don't know. I've never been here before." Alec said, trying to sound confused.

"Describe your surroundings."

"Well, I'm in a bed, there are lots of black clothes around me on the floor, there's a gun on a drawer. There's a picture of an-"

"You're in your bedroom, you dumb fuck!" Magnus yelled, but Alec could hear the laughter behind his voice.

"You know I wouldn't have picked you up."

"You were getting ready to head out the door as we were speaking, and you know it."

"No, I was not. I was actually just going to tell you to call one of your Shadowhunter friends, and hang up on you."

"You are such a liar." Alec said, grinning.

"I've gotta go." Magnus said abruptly.

Alec laughed. "Alright, Magnus."

Alec expected him to quickly hang up, but he stayed on the line, not saying anything. "I thought you said you had to go."

"I know, I just...don't want to hang up yet." Magnus said. There was silence between them, until..

Knock, knock.

"Now I've gotta go." Alec said.

"Right, of course. I'll talk to you later."

Alec hung up the phone and opened the door, expecting to see Izzy or Jace, maybe even Clary, so he was confused when he saw the newest Clave agent, Jonah, at his door.

"What do you want?" Alec asked.

"Um, I just..wanted to talk to you about something. But if you're busy.."

"Yeah, I am." Alec snapped, but then thought better of it. He didn't want to scare off the kid. "No, I'm..I'm free to talk. Come in." Alec gestured for him to do so.

Jonah came through the door and Alec shut it. Jonah stood there, quietly. "Well, spit it out. What did you want to talk about?"

" Um, I was just wondering..maybe it was my imagination, but...were you at Pandemonium last night?"

Alec froze. How did he know he was at Pandemonium. Unless...

He thought he saw a familiar face in the crowd, but he couldn't remember from where.

Jonah was that person that he had seen in the crowd. Alec narrowed his eyes and scowled at Jonah.

"Why do you ask?"

"It's just...I thought I saw something...and I was curious, but, I'm sure it was just my imagination, like I said."

"I'm sure it was," Alec said, still glaring at him. "So, I suggest you don't go around spreading rumours of this. Are we clear." Alec said the question as more of a statement, like there was no disagreement. And Jonah heard the message loud and clear.

"Ye-yeah, of course." Jonah stammered. He rushed out of Alec's room.

Maybe one day he would be ready to tell his parents, siblings, and the whole Institute about Magnus. But not yet.
