last chapter:(

Two weeks later, things were a lot different.

Annabeth decided that she would never talk to her dad again, and Percy agreed. Maybe in the future, they could work things out. For now, though, it was better left alone.

As for Annabeth and Percy, things were going well. He hadn't officially asked her to be his girlfriend, but they held hands whenever they were out in public, he kissed her forehead whenever they greeted each other, and they cuddled as they watched movies almost every night. All he needed to do was confess his feelings, straight and out.

One day, Percy was making dinner for Annabeth when she bursted into the apartment.

"Percy!" she shrieked. She ran to him and hugged him, causing him to drop his spatula.

"What?" he cried, a little surprised by her excitement. Annabeth looked up at him with sparkling eyes and a glowing face.

"I got a job at the architecture firm I was telling you about! A really, really good job!"

He registered the words in his mind for a few minutes, then smiled hugely. He hugged her back, lifting her up off the ground. She laughed in his ear as he spun her in a circle.

"I'm so proud of you!" he yelled. He grabbed her face gently and stared into her beautiful eyes. "Jeez, Annabeth. You're so amazing."

She stared back up at him, her smile still bright. In that moment, with her face glowing and her eyes trained on him, Percy couldn't help it. He leaned down and kissed her.

Percy didn't think much about fate before that moment. But once he kissed Annabeth, in the apartment that they shared, with no obstacles left for them...he knew that they were meant to be together.

She kissed him right back, and they only separated because they were both smiling way too much.

Percy tucked a strand of her hair behind her ear and said, "I love you." His face grew red when he realized what he had said. Too soon, he thought. She's gonna-

Annabeth stood on her tip-toes and kissed him again quickly. She grinned at him vibrantly and replied, "yeah, I got that." After another quick kiss, she whispered, "I love you too, Percy."

His heart felt like a bunch of Pop Rocks were going off in it when she said that, but Percy just bit his lip in an attempt to stop smiling so much (it didn't work) and leaned in to kiss Annabeth again.

"Called it," Jason said over the phone. Grover pushed himself into the facetime call and waved at Annabeth.

"Hi!" he greeted. "I'm so happy you're finally together."

She blushed adorably, and Percy couldn't help himself from kissing her cheek. He talked to his friends for a while more on the phone, and Annabeth stayed by his side the whole time.

He hoped she'd be by his side for the rest of his life, too.
