      "Man, this is bogus."

Jason threw his baseball straight up as he laid on the couch. The ball fell down, and he caught it before it hit his nose. He continued this cycle as Percy said, "she's not wrong, though."

"It still sucks," Jason replied. "Who even is Luke? I bet he's one of her rich friends. Ugh, I can't stand those people."

"Dude," Percy said. "We're sitting in your huge house."

"Well yeah, but I just started earning money. They never had to work for it."

      "You're ridiculous."

Jason shrugged and proceeded to throw his ball up in the air and catch it. "Girls suck. Forget her."

"We live together," Percy reminded him. "Besides, I thought you liked Annabeth."

Jason sighed. "You're right, I do. You guys are perfect for each other."

Percy rolled his eyes at his friend and started towards the kitchen. "Maybe I should start dating again."

"You sound like a fifty year-old widow," Jason said. "But yeah, I agree. I can set you up on a double date with Piper and I, and we can-"

"Wait." Percy closed the fridge. A huge smile crossed his face. "You finally asked her out?"

Jason kept throwing his baseball straight up, but his cheeks burned with a red color. "It's not a big deal."

"Um, it's a huge deal," Percy corrected. He walked over to the couch and caught the ball mid-air, forcing Jason to look up at him. "Enjoy your first date. I don't think I'm ready to see new people, anyway."

      "You sure?"

      Percy nodded.

"Thanks man," Jason beamed. "I really like Piper, but I feel like I'm gonna barf."

"Those are called nerves," Percy said. "You know, like what humans go through-"

Jason pushed on his friend's chest. "Shut up! Meanie."

Percy smiled. Even though his own love life was pretty bad at the moment, he was still super happy for Jason. If anyone deserved a happy relationship, it was him.

;;;

"You're home," Annabeth announced, as if Percy didn't know that.

"I'm aware," he snapped. She rolled her eyes.

"Let's go to Target," she suggested. Percy pursed his lips.

"Why don't you ask Luke to go?"

"Oh my God!" Annabeth sighed, a hint of bitter laughter in her voice. "Are we seriously fighting? You promised-"

"We're not fighting," Percy cut her off, his tone a little less harsh than before. He didn't want to be mad at her, but he lost all control of his emotions whenever he thought about her with someone else.

"Okay," she said. "Then please come to Target with me."

"As I said, why don't you just go with Lu-"

Annabeth grabbed the collar of Percy's shirt and got in his face, her face way too close to his. His breath hitched, and he had to use all of his strength to keep himself from kissing her.

"We are going to Target and we are going to have fun," she told him. "We agreed we'd be friends, and friends don't avoid each other."

"Friends also don't stand this close to each other," Percy argued. He gulped.

"Well, are you going to keep ignoring me?" Annabeth asked.

Right now, I'd much rather kiss you.

Percy shook his head no. She let go of his shirt and took a step back. He opened his mouth to say something—truthfully, he didn't even know what he was going to say—but Annabeth was already walking away.

"I'll be ready in five minutes."

Once she was out of his sight, Percy released a huge breath. He wiped a bead of sweat from his forehead and tried to calm his frantic heartbeat.

Annabeth was ready in exactly five minutes, and Percy jumped when she tapped him on the shoulder. He had been so focused on calming himself down that he hadn't even noticed her presence.

"I call dibs on not driving," she said. Percy watched as she left the apartment, wondering how he had gotten himself into this situation.

;;;

Target actually was fun, but Percy thought it could've been more enjoyable if he hadn't had the scene in the kitchen stuck in his head the entire time.
