Sixty five......
Sixty six......
Sixty seven.......
Sixty eight......
Sixty nine......
Seventy!
I emerge from the water and take a deep breath. Yep, that definitely wasn't it...
I look up at Australia and New Zealand, both giving me matching smiles. Canada wasn't nearly as amused.
"Y'know, finding your power and finding new ways to almost kill yourself aren't mutually exclusive," Canada says, concern rising in his voice.
"C'mon Nada, I was just seeing how long I could hold my breath! We used to do that all the time when we were kids!" I say, smiling. Canada rolls his eyes.
"Well, you should stop acting like a kid and learn to grow up. Maybe that's why your guardian hasn't found you worthy yet," Canada sighes. I laugh.
Once you hit a certain age, your spirit guardian puts you through tests to see if you are truly ready to earn your power. Once your guardian sees that you are ready, it will merge with your soul and give you its powers. I'm the only one who hasn't gotten mine yet, which is ridiculous. I feel as though I went through so much, yet my guardian never came. All of my friends got their powers when they were children, so it feels ridiculous that I am 20 and rendered basically useless, just because I'm not special.
Or maybe I am?
Well, if this is what it means to be special, I wish I could be the most average person ever.
"Hey! What are you guys doing?" Poland says while flying over to us. His grand white wings are glowing in the bright sun, making him look even more angelic then usual. He is wearing a light red robe with a golden trim, all tied in place with a golden rope.
"Nothin' much, just taking a swim with my babysitters," I joke. My brothers roll their eyes. I always tell them that they don't have to watch over me like I'm a child, but they never listen. It's kind of embarrassing, especially since I am the oldest sibling. "Wanna join? I have plenty of lifeguards," I joke.
"Ah, a swim does sound lovely. Unfortunately, I have to get back to my training," Poland replies. I give him a sad smile, and I try my best not to look at the scar running down his face and wings. A few years ago, a horrible group of sick, twisted people all tried to take over the world. Poor Poland. He and so many others suffered at the hands of these demons. I wish I could have done something to help. Unfortunately, I was stuck at home like a damn child.
"Hey! Once you get all god-like and have super strength, call me over and use me as a weight! After all, what else am I capable of than making you guys look even cooler than you already are," I say, only half joking. Australia and New Zealand laugh, after all, they are only 15, so they only really see the humor in everything I say. Canada frowns.
"Ame..." Canada started.
"Alright! That's enough swimming for one day! While you guys go train, I'll hang out with Germany," I interrupt. I know it's rude to interrupt people, but I hate it when people try to tell me that I am special. Besides, they only say that to make me feel better about myself. It's bittersweet, because it's nice to hear them say it, but I know it's just out of pity. I dry off my hair and start putting on clean clothes. New Zealand uses his telekinesis to make a barrier out of towels, so I can change in peace.
