I barely had time to register what I had happened as Lucas balled up his fists again and punched Jake in the stomach.

I jolted up and put a hand on Lucas’ chest, pushing him backwards will all my strength before he could pulverise Jake.

“What are you doing!?” I yell watching Lucas breathe really loudly from anger. I’m surprised smoke was coming out of his ears. But now he infuriated me by hitting Jake and kissing Paige, so I did the one thing that crossed my mind and slapped him.

I could tell that the impact was hard because my hand print was on his face.

He looked taken aback but that wasn’t the end of my anger because I wanted to yell.

I quickly looked back down and helped Jake onto his feet. His lip was bust with blood pouring out and I could see a bruise coming on.

“Luke,” Jake shook his head and wiped the blood from his cut lip. “Why?”

Lucas looked away and I wanted the idiot to look us in the eye. Why on earth did he have to hit his best friend like that? Everyone in the canteen was staring at the fight between the two friends to were like brothers. I didn’t blame them for being curious because I was too.

Lucas mumbled something and stormed out of the canteen and kicked a chair before he was out of sight. I heaved a sigh and turned to Jake who looked terrible and I felt bad for him.

“Your lip,” I say softly and reach for a napkin to help clear the scarlet blood. “What is wrong with him?” I say more to myself with gritted teeth. Jake shrugged and slumped down with his hands in his head. “I don’t know. We’ve gotten into fights before and yelled at each other, but I don’t know what I did wrong now.”

The kiss between me and a Jake came back into my head. I’d forgotten that because Lucas had so violently decided to punch his best friend. Jake didn’t deserve a friend Lucas. He should have caring friends that appreciate him.

“You probably did nothing wrong,” I say and put a hand on Jake’s shoulder whilst April helps clear up more of the blood on his face. “It’s just Lucas.” I shrug and decisively grab my bag and head out of the canteen.

I want to ask that arsehole what was going through his head. He can’t go around hitting people and mostly someone he’s know all his life. It wasn’t long before I turned a corner and found Lucas sat down on the floor and leaning against the wall.

He didn’t react to my footsteps or look up. He just ignored me.

“You’re a real dick, you know that?” I snap and still his head is down. I go over and kick him in the leg and he lifts his head a little.

“Why did you have to hit him? What did Jake do that offended you?”

No reply.

I try and control my anger towards him.

“He’s your best friend!” I enunciate every word.
