When I was 4 years old, me and my family moved to Sydney, and we moved into the house next to Ruel's. Since Ruel and I were the same age, we hang out a lot, were in the same classes and instantly became best friends.

When we were younger, I sometimes got bullied and he always stood up for me when someone said something cruel about me. He always helped me when I was going through a rough time, and when he was feeling down, I always made sure he was okay.

We had a lot of nights where one was sad and the other came over with ice cream and blankets to comfort them.

It for sure wasn't unexpected that I had caught feelings for him, even though he probably thought of me as a sister.

"Y/N? Hey, earth to Y/N. What is going on? You seem so distant lately." Ruel and I were currently hanging out at my place, and he was sitting on my couch while I lay on my bed.

I sighed. "I'm sorry. It's just ... I ... I don't know, okay. I think I ... Never mind, just forget it."

Don't get me wrong, I really wanted to admit my feelings to him, but I was scared. I was simply just too scared to tell him.

"Y/N ... You know you can tell me everything, right? You don't have to be scared to tell me if something's wrong." Ruel softly said to me. I knew he was only trying to comfort me, but I still didn't know what he would say if I told him.

"Okay. I think I can tell you then." I took a deep breath and then began telling him. "So, basically, there's this guy I like, and I don't think he likes me back. He is such an amazing person and I have liked him for a long time now."

I let out a shaky breath and slowly looked up to him. I couldn't really tell what emotion he was showing. Did he look sad? Or jealous? I don't know.

"I ... Well, Y/N, if that guy does not like you back, he must be the biggest jerk on earth. You are so sweet and caring, how could anyone not like you?" Ruel told me. He looked down after he said it and it almost looked like he wasn't happy with me admitting I had feelings for someone.

"Ruel, why are you acting like this is a big deal? I mean, it sure is for me, but it will not stand in the way of our friendship!"

"Don't you get it? You like someone, a guy who is amazing, while I like you, Y/N! I like you! I have for so long now, and I hate that you like someone who is not me. Remember in year 6, when you came home from the eye doctor and I was the first one you showed your glasses to? You hated that you had to wear them, and I told you that it wasn't bad at all. You looked beautiful, like always! That was the moment I knew I liked you, Y/N. And I have never stopped. And even though were still young, I think I even might be in love." Ruel was crying now.

I was shocked. Just shocked. Ruel liked me back. Ruel liked me back! For so long.

He got up from my couch. "I think it's best if I go. I don't want to interrupt your nice thoughts about that guy." He walked over to the door but just before he opened, I stopped him.

"Ruel, you don't get it. The boy I was talking about earlier ... It's you. I like you, too, Ruel." I was sobbing now as well.

Ruel looked up to me. I could see his eyes slightly lightening up. "Really? I am the guy you like?"

"Yes." I nodded and walked over to him.

I could see a smile creep up on his face. He hugged me tightly and I hid my face in his chest. The fact that we only now found out that we liked each other was kind of crazy.

After some time Ruel backed up and looked at me. "Can I kiss you?" He asked me sweetly.

Instead of telling him "yes", I decided to kiss him. That took him by surprise, but soon he kissed me back.

"If only we would have told each other sooner." I kissed him once more before sitting down on my bed.

"Yes, we would have saved so much time. But let's just be happy we're together now. Wait, we're together right?" I worried about what I just said. Ugh, I always blurt things out way too fast!

Ruel chuckled. "Well, technically we're not, but ... Y/N, will you be my girlfriend?" Ruel asked. I could see he was a little nervous.

"Yes! Yes, yes, yes! Of course." Ruel touched my cheek and kissed me passionately.

"Cuddles for tonight?" I asked.

Ruel agreed and we lay down on my bed and cuddled. I soon fell asleep in his arms, very happy with my boyfriend.
