I saw a woman lying on the hospital bed, her long ginger hair pooling around her limp form. Multiple scratches adorned her otherwise flawless face. I heard Ashton gasp before rushing to her side and taking her small hand in his large one. Ashley hesitated for a moment before rushing to take her other hand. As I watched the tears stream from both of the twins eyes, I knew what I had to do. I gently shoved Ashley out of the way and placed one hand on the still woman's forehead and the other, holding her hand. Ignoring the slightly hurt look on both of the twins' faces, I began to sing a song. I had never heard of the song before, so it surprised me just as much as it did the twins. "Through the darkness, you fight. Hoping to find the desired light. Look in your heart and take control. Guide your own soul. Come back to the place you are needed, where you belong. Gone not for long. As you hear the melody of my song. Come back to the place you are needed, the place where you belong." My voice was strong yet quiet, as if speaking to the dead theirselves. Slowly, her amber eyes opened to look at us. "A-ashley. Ashton." She muttered. Though her voice was raspy and frail, I could still tell that it was once full of power and authority. "There is something I needed to tell you, and now I know there isn't much time left. Come close. You too, Luminous." She looked at me. 'Luminous?' I thought to myself, dismissing the thought temporarily as I followed her instructions and leaned in. "My children, my time is short. You will both be next to rule. A time of war is going to be upon us. Be prepared. Luminous," she directed her attention from her two children and looked at me. "You are much more than you expected. There is a sage. His name is Orrin. He will tell you about how to control what you are." She stopped talking and took a deep breath. Slowly the heart monitor began to slow. "I love you, Ashton, Ashley." She managed to kiss them both on their foreheads before her heart stopped completely. I didn't know this woman, but I felt as if she knew me. And how did she know I was something other than human? Why did she call me Luminous? Who is Orrin? The questions spun around in my head so fast, I fell against the wall, holding my head in the palms of my hands. "Did you know our mother? And I thought you said your name was Melody." Ashton asked me in a small voice. "No. I didn't know her." I paused, clearing my throat to keep it from breaking while tears streamed like rivers down my cheeks. "And my name is Melody. Or at least it's what I grew up being called." I muttered, still not looking up at him. "You must be really important then." Ashton mumbled. I looked up at him with confused eyes. "You probably didn't need to find out about Mythicals like this. But my mom was a shifter. Meaning that she could turn into a certain animal. And since she was one and dad was one, Ashley and I are, too. But mom was special. She had the ability to see the future. Like visions. Only the important people in her life would be shown and if you never met her before then you must be important. Though I wonder how a human is important in the Mythical world." Ashton took a deep breath. "I'm," I started but hesitated. I mean he did just tell me the biggest secret a Mythical could have. "I'm a Mythical, I guess you would say. I'm a Siren. But maybe something else. With the way your mom was saying. Do you know anything about the sage Orrin?" He shook his head. "All I know is that he lives somewhere in Mistitown." I smiled slightly. "Perfect."
