February 10th, 1963
A week or two have passed since George asked me to be his girlfriend and I haven't seen or heard from Paul since the day I found the letter.
Sure, my mind wanders back to him from time to time but I can honestly say I'm getting used to being George's girlfriend.
Some days ago, George and John mentioned their new manager had plans for a music tour in America very soon since no matter where they seem to go in Europe they're swamped by admiring girls. Especially since they're getting a lot of radio play now.
It makes me proud of them but time in America makes me nervous for them as well.
I know they're great enough to win anyone over with their talents.Tonight is the night before they get the news if they're actually going or not and it's their last gig at the Cavern.
Cyn, Maureen, and I are going as a group so we're all getting ready at our apartment.
I'm driving the girls there since the boys have to be early.
We're enthusiastic tonight because the cavern is throwing an early Valentine's Day shindig.Cyn and Maureen seem to be more chatty than usual, I guess it's just the fun atmosphere.
Once we arrive, the atmosphere becomes even lighter.
As we enter the club, Maureen spots Jane and flags her down to join our group.
Oh great, Jane.
She's not my enemy but with everything that's happened, there's just tension that surrounds us whenever we're near one another.
I try to be nice and say hello"Hello Jane"
"Evie."
Rolling her eyes as she says my name in acknowledgment.
Yup, it's official. I don't like Jane.
But I won't let little Miss. Jane Asher ruin my mood tonight.
I'm here for the boys. They play a few songs and I notice how many girls are throwing their selves at them.
It's a little unnerving, especially since my boyfriend is one of those particular guys.
I just try to not let it annoy me and just enjoy the music.
They sing some of their new songs and some of their old ones.
Paul sings "All My Loving" and I don't think it should've made me feel the way it did.
While he sang it, I missed him.
He wasn't just someone I was sexually drawn to, he was humorous, intelligent, and sentimental, Paul is a very unique person who makes you feel good just to be around him.
Those thoughts are quickly pushed aside when George dedicates the song "Chains" to "The only girl the stars shine for"
The burning eye contact we make as he announces it makes me deeply blush.
Some girls in the crowd turn to look at me, I notice their sour expressions and eye-rolling but I pay no mind to it, if anything it makes me feel more important that they envy George's affection for me.
We dance and drink in enjoyment.
While the boys finish up with their final song, Cyn pulls me aside and asks if we can speak.
As we sit at the bar, she tenderly holds my hands with both of hers. I can feel her trembling from nervousness."Cyn, are you okay?"
"Yes, I'm more than okay."
"What is it? You're trembling"
"Evie, I was going to wait to tell you.
I haven't even told John yet, I was saving it for Valentine's Day but I don't think I can hold it in any longer.""You know you can trust me"
"I'm pregnant."
"Oh my goodness, are you sure?"
"I just found out two days ago and well, I thought I should tell you.
I have no idea how to tell John"
