The Promise

I tried to wake up early but didn't quite succeed at that. I should've left to the office atleast by 8. But now the time is already past 8. I sent a message to Emma, my colleague informing that I'll be coming late. I got an immediate reply stating 'ok'. She is around my age and she is a fun one to hang out with. I'm happy I've some people like her in my department to understand me. I guess I'm lucky in that aspect.

There's no need in hurrying for the office so I thought of making breakfast for Jayd before she is parting me. She might leave within the next week, so I'll only have very little time with her. I should make use of that.

I don't want her to leave me, but I want her to take up this project. So being a good sister I should make my sister's wishes to see the light. I know she wanted to take up this project the moment she blurted out. But she hesitated for me, I can feel it. Even though, she blamed this over her Boss, I know what she is doing. After all she is my sister, she can't hide anything from me, her expressions make it clear to me.

I know she is doing her internship in this office, but if this project goes well, she will surely become a normal employee. After-all she was personally picked and sent to this office by her professor. I know she has her stuff, even though she is little playful. I know this career is her dream and I'll support her all my life. And the first step is letting her go and find that herself rather than locking her in this place.

I made her honey-soaked pancakes and a sandwich including sausage, eggs and the cheddar. She loves the combination of the three and obviously I love it too. Finally, I made her favorite peanut banana smoothie and went to dress up for the office.

If I leave before 10, I might reach the office before 12, the traffic at this time can't be explained in normal words. I wore a simple button down black skirt reaching my knees with a white flannel shirt and along with the black pumps. I left my hair in loose waves. I went to the kitchen and saw her already ogling at the dishes. I immediately prepared the plates and sat with her to enjoy the breakfast.

"If I had known earlier that you will make these yummy dishes for me, I would've said about the project a lot more earlier", she said devouring her sandwich. "If you had said about your project earlier to me,..I definitely", I deliberately waited for her reactions, "I definitely wouldn't have made you any meal!", I completed my sentence smirking. Her eyes was so excited but hearing me it drooped. I sneered at her reactions. She grumpily said, "You're lying". I obviously am lying but didn't give her answer and instead I laughed at her. I'm really gonna miss this person for the coming days. I sighed thinking about it.

We finished our breakfast and the banter and I left for the office. Before I can reach my car, she hugged me from behind and said in my ears, "Don't worry sissy. I'll return soon. I'll call you every single hour and irritate you. You won't feel like I'm gone, so don't you go into old granny's mood. Never. And I want you to go on dates when am not here. That's how you won't have time thinking about me. I'll talk about this later though in a very clear way but I want you to be happy". I turned around and hugged her tight, "I love you Jayd", "I love you too Cami. And thanks for this, seriously. If you didn't force me to call yesterday, I wouldn't have joined and yesterday is the last day for the confirmation. Even though I don't want to, I've to do this. I hope you won't be angry at me for leaving you. After-all I'm the one who is breaking the promise and leaving you, Forgive me Cam", she said with tears in her eyes.

The tears in my eyes threatened to spill yet I managed it and said, "You know, I always wish for your happiness and success. So don't you worry", " I know, I love you, I love you more, Cam", she said her tears soaking her face and my shirt. I didn't mind my shirt. But I didn't want to shed a single tear cause I really don't want to mess my make-up, even though it is light it took me a long time. Well I'm not good in that area. We remained in the hug for few minutes and I slowly patted her back trying to soothe her. "Now go and get ready, we don't want you to go in late today", she nodded and went inside our home before kissing my cheek and waving me bye!

All the way to the office I was thinking about Jayd and the promise she talked about. We took the promise when we were 10 years. She still remembers that. We made a promise so that we won't stay away from each other a single day after the high school, cause she did her high school living with her parents and I was naturally staying here since then. We promised to stay in the same house during the university and after that. The funny thing is we sworn not to get married if it results in us getting separated. But it was 14 years ago and she was just 8 years by then. How can she remember this clearly?

One thing is clear to me, I don't know how I'm gonna survive without her for the next few months. She has been there for me since forever. And she took up the role of my parents (at-times), when they left me stranded in this world. It's really not gonna be easy for me. I think I'm gonna learn it in the hard way. Oh God! Please help me in this crucial time!

I went to my workplace and tried to focus on my new project with great difficulty. In the break, my colleague, Emma came and asked whether I've any issues. Since I came late she might have concluded that I've some issues, cause I've never been late. But I explained to her that I had breakfast with my family and she understood. Even though she knows about my parents, she didn't question about the family I meant. She would've guessed it as my sister's family, maybe. I didn't ponder too much on that topic and focused on the computer opposite to me.

I left early to surprise Jayd, but she didn't come home. I didn't call her, I don't wanna let her know I came early, I wanted it to be a surprise. So, I took my time to fresh up and went to make her favorite dinner. Yeah! I like to spoil her. I'll make her fat now, so even if she forgets to take her food in the future,that won't be an issue, cause when she returns home, she will come as normal as she is now.

I waited and waited and waited for her. The clock struck 10, yet she didn't come home and guess what she isn't picking my call either. Someone's really gonna be yelled at tonight!!

She didn't even text me about her whereabouts! How could she do this? What happens when she is in a different country? I might not even know whether she reached her room or not?! I think I've to leave with her to her head office. Or I should put a GPS tracker in her phone. Yea! I'm gonna put a tracker when she comes home.

I was watching Frozen when I heard her enter the home. I immediately ran to the entrance to see her walking towards me with a big smile on her face. I don't know why she is smiling, but that didn't stop me from exploding my anger on her. All the while she was nodding with a smile and mischievous glint on her eyes.

I finally ended my one-side argument and asked her, "What have you done ?", she understood and her smile deepened. "I reserved it", with that said she started towards her room. "What?", I shouted again. She smiled and entered her room, but before closing it, she peaked from the slit and shrieked, "Surprise".
