Chris

I don't want this to happen. I really can't miss it. I checked my schedule again. No. No, there is no free time. I have 30 minutes max and that is supposed to be my lunch time. I sighed heavily. I don't have any other options. The only option is to skip my lunch and go for the grocery shopping or-else I should eat Leah's baby food tonight. Nope. That's not gonna happen.

I checked my left wrist once again to make sure I have time. I have 30 minutes left, If I use my time smartly I can shop within 15 minutes in the spar market, luckily it is in the same building and I can meet Leah for few minutes and get something from the cafeteria with the remaining time.

I hate to wait for the elevator, it takes forever to come to this floor. I waited for the door of the elevator to open, ever so slowly. When the door opened, my eyes fell inside on a girl with a navy blue cut out neck top.

The same girl from the elevator. When she saw me, she smiled. I tried to smile back and entered the elevator. We were not alone, a couple are standing in the corner talking with each other. I pressed the button for the floor where the market is. I was standing with my back to the side wall of the elevator so that I can see her with the help of my side vision.

I saw her and she was looking at her phone. Maybe she is checking her news-feed or reading her texts. I couldn't make out what she is doing. The elevator came to a stop, I looked at the digital screen in the elevator to check whether I reached my destination. No, I didn't and I focused on her, she was checking at the screen too. I hope she stays a little while in this elevator. I don't know why I feel like this! But I know it would be nice to see her for a few more minutes, it will be even more nice to start up a conversation. But I don't think I can do that now.

The couple moved out and I couldn't help but notice how the guy looked at this girl before leaving the elevator. I don't blame the guy. Who wouldn't stop looking at this beautiful girl, who is so oblivious of the other peoples eyes on her?

I looked at her once again, today she has tied up her hair in a simple high ponytail. She lifted her head from her phone and looked at me. Now, we are alone just like the first time I saw her. She smiled at me. I smiled and opened my mouth to say 'hi'. But the elevator jolted suddenly, I moved back and forth because of the sudden movement and the elevator stopped. Everything darkened.

"Shit!", I snapped. I heard her gasp. Before I can say something to her, she asked me, "Are you alright?". "Yeah. I'm good..er.. alright.. I'm alright", I embarrassed myself once again. I heard her giggle softly. Not to be too utterly romantic or stupid but her laughter did sound like a music to me.

"Its nothing, just a small glitch maybe. It will come back to normal in a minute or so", she said. Her voice is sweet. Too sweet actually. "Yeah?.. Okay then", I replied to her. I wanted to make more conversations with her. So I opened my mouth to embarrass me again. "Does this happen often?", seriously? I facepalmed myself in my head. "Yeah, it used to happen often few months ago. But it was alright for few weeks and now it started again. Its not serious and you know the employees here got used to this by now", she smiled. Well, I can't see her in this dark but I felt she would smile. "Do you want me to switch on the flash?", I asked her instead of doing it right away. "I'll do it", before she finished saying it, the elevator came back to life.

She smiled at that. She turned to face me. Its my cue, I've to say 'hi'. "Hey", I said little awkwardly. "Hi", she gave me a wide smile. What should I say next? Maybe I should ask her how is she or which department she is. I think I forgot about the name part.

I extended my hand and said, "I'm Chris". The elevator came to a stop at the same time. She turned her gaze from the opening doors of the elevator to my hand. She took hold of my hand, "Its really nice to meet you Chris". she said with a smile. She was still holding my hands ever so lightly but her focus was on the closing doors. Why didn't she say her name? I mean she should've said her name, right? "I'm sorry Chris. I really have to go now", she said with a tight lipped smile and her her forehead lifted. I nodded at her. She left my hand and stopped the closing doors with her other hand and stepped out.

"It was nice meeting you too. Maybe later, I'll catch you in the elevator", I said to her before she could leave. She turned and smiled at me, "Sure.. if the fate brings us to the same spot", she said smirking. With that said, the elevator closed and I reached the 1st floor.

I bought all the necessary items that will help me survive this week. I didn't have enough time to go for a complete shopping. The time is really precious. I left the shopping bags in my car and entered the lift. Now I barely have ten minutes, I've to see Leah and after that I'll get a take out from the cafeteria.
