Magnus and Tessa were quietly sitting on the couch when Alec stormed into Magnus' loft. "THAT'S IT! I'M DONE WITH HERONDALES!" he thundered. Alec flopped on the couch next to Magnus and grabbed a handful of popcorn. "First, one calls me a lightworm, THEN Jace borrows my gear for training and he rips it. And now, they are arch-enemies. THEY JUST DON'T CARE WHAT PEOPLE THINK!"

Magnus smiled and slid his hand into Alec's. Alec put his head on Magnus' shoulder. "Alexander, just take a deep breath. We all have to deal with the horrors of Herondales." Tessa squirmed uncomfortably.

"Oh, sorry Tessa," Alec mumbled. "I know this is a touchy subject." He grabbed another handful of popcorn and shoved it into his mouth.

"It's fine," she replied. "Just stop hogging all of the popcorn." Alec blushed and drew his hand back. "Besides, I've got to face the facts sometime."

"You go girl," Magnus grinned. Tessa kicked Magnus, then got up and poured herself more Coke. She grabbed her phone and sat down again.

They got through two more episodes of 19 Kids & Counting before Magnus and Alec called it a night and went to bed. Tessa grabbed a blanket and had just settled down for one last episode of How I Met Your Mother, when her phone lit up with a text from Clary.

"Herondale vs. Herondale fight. Jem told me to tell you to come."

"MAGNUS!" Tessa screamed.

"I can't believe you did that!" Jem scolded.

"I said I was training to defeat Jace," Will replied coolly, pressing the ice pack to his jaw.

"I thought you were joking! I didn't know you had actually planned a fight!" Jem exclaimed. "If you haven't noticed, you've been alive for less than 48 hours and you weren't ready for things like that!"

Will glared as Jem reached into his pocket and pulled out his phone. "Tessa's here. I'm going to go meet her," Jem said.

Will started to stand up, but then winced at the pain shooting up his leg and sat back down on the infirmary bed. Jem had forced Will to heal the mundane way. It was torture.

"You stay here," Jem commanded. Will scowled and lied down, closing his eyes. A few minutes later, the sound of footsteps echoed through the room. Will sat up and his eyes met a pair of blazing grey ones.

"WHAT were you THINKING?!" Tessa cried. "It's TEN THIRTY and I get a text saying that you and Jace got in a FIGHT!"

"Well," Will quailed. "Jace and I needed to determine who was the better Herondale. I'm pretty sure Jace won."

Then, Tessa did something really unexpected. She slapped Will across the face and stormed out of the room.

Magnus chuckled at Will's shocked face. "Well, I guess Tessa's back to normal."

Will just sighed.

Tessa hadn't expected to hit him. She had been doing fine. But then she had seen his face all bruised and beaten, and she'd been reminded of how careless he had been when he'd been alive the first time. How he'd gotten in trouble so many times. Finally, her anger had boiled over and she didn't know what had happened.

Now, she was stumbling down the hall, tears blurring her vision. She finally stopped in front of a door and pushed it open. The library wasn't as big as the one in London, but it had all of her favorite classics. Tessa quietly cruised up and down the shelves, pulling out a favorite every once in a while.

When her arms were finally full, she sat down in a corner and opened the book on top. She opened up to the first blank page, and stopped.

Tess, Tess, Tessa, it read. She had found her copy of A Tale of Two Cities that had comforted her in the times of Will's absence.

You are the first dream, the only dream I ever was unable to stop myself from dreaming. You are the first dream of my soul, and from that dream I hope will come all other dreams, a lifetime's worth.

With hope at last,

Will Herondale

"Tess?" a voice said. She turned around to see a blue eyed boy leaning heavily on crutches, his ankle wrapped in bandages. Tears threatened to spill over her cheeks. Will must have noticed them. He hobbled over and knelt down. Hesitantly, he wrapped his arms around her as Tessa began to cry.

She didn't pull away.
