P.E. was a special kind of torture. And it had nothing to do with exercise. No, the torture from PE came from the taunting and teasing and endless harrowing brought by teenagers and kids alike. Carrie was well aware of the effect it had on kids, but it had been a long time since anyone had ever actually made fun of Carrie in the class and yet her defenses were still up as she stood next to Lydia and Allison. The trio, along with the rest of the class, stood before a rock wall ready for the activity of the day.
Coach Finstock, a man of economics and sports, was the PE teacher and he had a penchant for making Carrie uneasy in the class with his taunts. He had a special talent for bullying. "McCall! Argent! Let's go." Like that the two strapped in and the crowd around them began talking.
"Hey," Lydia called to Carrie after a moment of silence after watching Allison flirt with Scott, "Jackson said something about you hanging around with Derek Hale." The devilish smile never left her lips and Carrie flushed bright pink.
"Oh, uh... No?" Carrie tried, "It's not," Lydia gave her a pointed look. "Okay, maybe he's helping me with some stuff, but not-" She was saved by the bell, or rather Allison kicking Scott off the wall and the crowd erupting with laughter. Carrie rolled her eyes at the group annoyance quickly settled in her stomach. Coach laughed as he all but pushed Lydia and Carrie out of the way to taunt Scott.
Carrie audibly groaned.
Coach sat beside the boy who lay on the ground breathing heavily after the fall. "McCall, I don't know why, but your pain brings me a special joy." Carrie's nose wrinkled in disgust at the comment. Lydia caught her eyes as she quirked her head.
"I don't like bullies," Carrie mumbled out as Coach finished his wheeze of a laugh, and Allison kicked off towards the ground. The crowd erupted in cheers as the pretty brunette touched the ground and Carrie rolled her eyes.
"Alright, next two!" Coach eyed the crowd before finding his targets. "Whittemore squared, let's go." Jackson and Carrie shared a look that showed both weren't big fans of the nickname Coach had given the two of them, yet they complied.
For the second time today, Carrie groaned. She wasn't in the mood for some family competition.
The two got strapped up and like that Carrie was off in an instant with Jackson not far behind. Carrie was small and had trouble reaching for the ledge she wanted, but was faster. Jackson was taller and stronger, but incredibly unfocused. Speed wasn't his friend today. The two were neck and neck for what seemed like hours but was only seconds before Carrie pushed ahead, reaching, no practically jumping to the next ledge. She could taste the victory of beating her brother and then her target was out of her hands before she even noticed.
Jackson had beaten her. Rung the bell seconds before she had. The boy kicked off with a snotty smirk and Carrie looked pissed as she stomped out of the suit. It had been so close and then like that it was stolen from her.
