It was dark.
It was quiet.
Yet Rose was screaming. Her head was pounding, every cell in her body was reaching for oxygen. She kept fighting till she felt like her head was about to explode, she had to take a breath.
"Gasp!" Rose breathed, her lungs snatching all the air possible, as her head began to bob above the surface. Her eyes stung with the murky water, yet she still frantically tried searching for another human soul, Robin.
"Robin!" She screamed, before the current dragged her back under. Her ears popped, and all she could hear was this ringing before she penetrated the surface for a second time. "Robin!" She cried, a mix of screaming and gargling water. She had to find him! Where was he?!
Rose managed to grab hold of a piece of floating driftwood whilst the current swept her away. Where was he?! Just then she saw a black bowler cap fluctuating past her in the waves, he must be near! She continued paddling with her bit of wood to keep her afloat, searching for anything else that could lead to his direction.
Floating a little further a head, Rose saw a body lying face down in the water, a trail of blood following them. Please, please let him be alive. Rose prayed as she frantically swam further on to reach the body. With all her might, Rose managed to haul the body round, so their face was to the sky and kept them close to her chest, so the two stayed above the gushing water just a little bit longer.
Rose looked down upon the face before her, "no, no, no, no, no", Rose cried as she saw the mangled face reaching for the sky. It was Robin. There was blood everywhere and he looked seriously hurt. Tears fell from her eyes, he can't be dead, he just can't be. But Rose wasn't given much time to think about that, for up ahead Rose heard the deafening roar of a waterfall. Rose looked aghast, trying her hardest to pull herself and Robin to the shore, but it was no use, the current was to strong.
Rose closed her eyes and held her breath, whilst clutching Robin's motionless body close to hers as she prepared for the fall.
When they went over, Rose's perception of time became distorted, everything slowed down until there was nothing, only her, Robin and the sky above, the sky that seemed to swallow her whole. She reached out her hand, kissing the sky, grasping the endless crevasse of blue. Everything was a blur, a blur that swirled out of existence. Suspended in the air, she closed her eyes and surrendered herself to the murky depths below.

Moments later Rose awoke to the shallow depths of a lake. She seemed she had floated to shore after the fall. Her whole body ached, but she needed to find Robin. Slowly she tried to get up, but quickly realized how futile it was when she had to bite her lip to keep from crying out. Sharp pain lanced through her head and colorful spots flashed in front of her eyes, it felt like her whole body had been beaten and every movement caused some muscle or bone to ache. Regardless, Rose needed to find him.
Wincing in pain, Rose did her best to crawl to her knees and push herself up onto her feet. Lying only a few meters ahead of her lay Robin's broken body, "Robin", she wailed, as she knelt down beside him, cradling his head to her chest. All she could do was cry, she never got a chance to tell him she forgave him; never got a chance to tell him she was sorry; never got the chance to say goodbye.
She sobbed into his chest unceasingly, hands clutching at his ripped jacket. Rose held him close, rocking herself back and forth slowly as her tears soaked his chest. A tiny lapse let her pull away, blinking her lashes, heavy with tears, before she collapsed again, her howls of misery worsening. The pain must have come in waves, minutes of sobbing broken apart by short pauses for recovering breaths, before hurling herself back into the outstretched arms of her grief.
