"What's on your mind? Bob glanced at me for a second and looked back at the road.
"What do you mean?" I asked him. He looked at the over head mirror and shrugged "I figured since Luke is currently asleep, it is a good time as any to talk."

"Wow... I was about to suggest that" I told him because I was just thinking that and here he was, saying exactly what I had in mind.
"Well, it's not exactly hard to see that you've not been yourself since we had breakfast - you've been distracted, lost in thoughts I guess?" He looked at me for confirmation and I stared straight ahead again.
"I didn't know I was so easy to read." I murmured.

"I've known you for quite a while so give me a break, I definitely can tell when you have something on your mind. I can tell it's been bothering you awhile so please spill" he grinned at me and I laughed because he was right - to an extent, I could also say I knew what and what he couldn't do.

"Are you happy Bob?" I asked him seriously. He laughed "really, of all questions to ask? Of course I'm happy. I'm with this amazing and beautiful woman and I have a son. Moreso, we're going on a family vacation. What more could I possibly ask for ma'am?"

I sighed "I mean it Bob, be serious."
"Okay okay, you sure are not joking, no need to get so grumpy." He sighed when he saw I wasn't smiling.
"I don't know why we keep going in circles. Alex, do you know what people want the most just before they lose their loved ones?" He turned to me as soon as we got to a traffic light and stopped. I nodded, already knowing where he was going.

"A chance to say goodbye, a chance to say how much they love them. So when I say I'm happy Alex, I'm not telling you a lie, not at all. Why? Because - not - everyone - gets this chance. You cannot understand how precious it is to have this time with you in my last moments" he started the car when the lights turned green. I wasn't really paying attention to where we were going or if I knew the place, I just really wanted to hear Bob out.

"You know, if everyone lived like each day was their last, the world will be a better place because we get to tell each other the truth about how we feel. We tell our exact minds because we know there may not be another chance to say it the next day. I know it seems stupid and it seems like I'm going about this the wrong way."

"It looks like you have lost faith Bob, like you don't think it's possible for you to be alive till you're old" I cut in immediately, feeling like I could pull out my hair in frustration. Why was he so stubborn!!

He looked at me and smiled, I really didn't see what was funny in our conversation if you ask me. "In all honesty, I haven't lost my faith. It's just that my level of faith isn't the same as yours." He shrugged and I shook my head. What did that even mean?

"You believe I should allow Doctor Sam help me out and we wait on God for the treatment to work. I believe that if God wants me to live, he'll do that without the help of a doctor. We both have faith in God, just not in the same way.

You trust in the ability of God to use the drugs and treatments to heal me and I believe in feeling the power of God and having the cancer wiped out completely without treating it. I want him to make it clear to anyone who cares to listen that God did it. Not the drugs, not the effort of the doctors, God himself did it - that's the kind of miracle I want."

"Not everyone reasons the way I do and I'm not saying either of our reasoning is wrong or right. I'm just saying that irrespective of whether God heals me or not, I will still be forever grateful that an undeserving alcoholic like me can still be given a chance to be happy, to know people, to have a life."

"Alex, you just can't grasp it can you?" He asked once he saw the dumbfounded look on my face. I wasn't looking like that because I didn't understand, quite the contrary. I was beginning to understand his point.

"After I found out about the cancer, I ran to God, only because I needed healing. I mean, I had friends who had told me about this God who had done so much for them, including healing. So I felt, why not?

Months into my new life as a 'christian' and the cancer only got worse. Didn't Doctor Sam tell you, I did try treatment, it just wasn't working. I think that was the turning point for me - that was when I made up my mind to follow Christ, that was when I decided to adopt a son.

The doctor is somewhat like family, treating me since I was a kid and treating my parents before I was born - you definitely don't expect him to give up even when it's staring right in his face that medically, nothing can be done to help me?"

I agreed with him on that, Doctor Sam was hell bent on helping him, but then I didn't know Bob had tried several treatments.

"My happiness from onlookers, looks like madness and that's how I feel. I feel like I could go insane with an overwhelming joy that I got this chance. I'm not sure you can grasp how much this means to me that I got the both of you. For God's sake Alex, I was on a plane to hell!" He yelled and I burst out laughing.

"And he saved me and I've never been the same." I sighed because I could finally see his point and knew I couldn't argue but to be sure i asked him "just to be clear, you still believe that you can be better?"

He rolled his eyes "yes ma'am. Although the pain I feel is real and the results are glaring - I believe God can heal me. Happy now?" He tsked "besides, no one really wants to die."

"I wouldn't know" I shrugged "there are so many people out there that believe that they'd rather be dead than live their lives." I told him.
"Well not me" he interjected immediately "and now let's stop this talk already."

"Why? I'm not done with my questions."
"The questions will have to come to an end now. We've arrived and it's time to have fun." Once he said that, I finally took a look around and noticed that we had indeed parked the car.

"Stay in the car and let me check our reservations" Bob informed as he got down the car, giving me time to take in my surroundings without disturbance as Luke was still asleep. It didn't look like anywhere I had been before and it made my happy that I was experiencing something new with two of the most important people in my life.

It didn't take long for Bob to check that his reservations for us were still intact. He came out just as I was contemplating coming down and taking a good look at my environment. Since I was trying to figure out if I had been here before, I didn't notice the beauty of the place at first glance and now that I finally did, Bob was already back.

"Okay, will you carry Luke while I get our luggages? He asked, then caught me in awe and grinned at me "don't worry, you'll have time to go sight seeing tomorrow."
