Why does summer have to fly by so fast? It feels like just yesterday I was spending the last day of school with Peter at the comic book store. It's not like I did much. I mostly just hung out with friends and watched way too much YouTube. Patrolling has been slow lately as well. It's like even the criminals are taking a summer break too.
Sighing, I walked through the tower a bit bored. My friends were busy today, so I had nothing left to do. Oh wait, my summer work is still on my desk incomplete. Thankfully, I've already read the chosen book, so I just had to fill out some quotes. The math work was also easily finished within an hour.
Stretching in my desk chair, I decided that was enough productivity for one day and headed to the kitchen to make some lunch. Bagel pizza sounded really good right about now.
After popping it into the oven and waiting for it to finish, I cleaned up the mess I've made and leaned against the counter unsure of what to do. I heard my phone buzzing and grabbed it off the counter. Unknown caller? Who the fu-
The oven dings. Perfect timing. Most of the time, I would ignore any call like this, but for some reason, I felt the need to answer this one.
"Hello?" I moved the phone between my shoulder and ear and struggled to open the oven to grab the bagel pizza.
"Hi, is this (Y/N) Rogers?" The deeper voice asked.
"Um, who wants to know?"
This was getting weird. Barely anyone knows my true last name.
"My name is Daniel Drumm. I would like to meet up with you, if that's ok," he paused, "Stark knows who I am, if that's any sort of reassurance."
I snorted, "Not really. The man has a serious amount of enemies."
He chuckled and sighed. "How about this. You choose the meeting spot."
"What if this is just a huge trap?"
"How will you know if you don't come?"
He's got a point. At least, my gut is telling me this isn't a trap.
"Okay, fine. The park by the Brooklyn Bridge. When are we meeting exactly?" Finally getting the bagel pizza onto the counter, I moved the phone to my hand and leaned my elbows against the cool countertop.
"Two P.M. today? Oh, and don't bring anyone."
"Sure." The phone call ended abruptly after. I looked at the clock and realized I have an hour before I have to be over at the park. I'm just going to enjoy my bagel pizza in peace and-
BANG
Why the hell could I hear Tony in his lab six stories below where he works? I grabbed the remainder of the pizza and headed up to the lab to see what he exploded this time.
"Tony? What the heck did you explode this time?"
"OH! You heard that all the way down in the kitchen?" He was covered in black soot and was pacing around another suit. He shuffles through a stack of papers and grabs the nearest cup of coffee to take a sip. "I was just working on adding a new feature to the latest suit. Nothing to worry about."
"I'm going out in about thirty minutes," I responded unsure of how to answer back to his suit explosions.
"Alright. Have fun. Don't forget to not do anything I wouldn't do." He moved his attention back to working on his suit.
I got off the train and made my way the extra couple of blocks towards the park. This may be the last walk I take. . . I can't think like this. But what if it's true? What if I can't ever profess my love to Peter?
Whoa.
Where'd that come? I can't be catching feelings, can I? Not what I needed to be worrying about at the moment.
I sat down on a bench closer to the water overlooking the bridge. Five minutes past two, I looked around the park anxious to get this over with.
A middle-aged looking guy stands in front of me. He was wearing jeans, a plain t-shirt, and a bomber jacket. He too wore sunglasses because the sun was shining very bright overhead.
After a moment of staring at each other, he asked, "Can I sit?"
It was the same voice from the phone call.
Hey, he isn't sketchy at all yet! My gut seems to be giving me good direction lately.
I waved my hand in a gesture to show he could and he took a seat at the other end of the bench. "So. Mr. Drumm. Why did you call me asking if we could meet up?"
He looked me dead in the eyes and asked, "Have you heard of the infinity stones?"
