"The infinity stones? Am I supposed to know what they are?" I asked.
"Well, no, not many people on earth know of them," Daniel responded.
"What should I know about these 'infinity stones?'" I bit down on the inside of my cheek.
"The infinity stones were created during the Big Bang and hurtled across the new universe. Each infinity stone controls an essential aspect of existence." He moved his hands and a small display appeared, showing the six stones. "Space, Reality, Power, Soul, Mind, and Time. Many have appeared on earth during the last couple years-"
"The Avengers' battle against Loki?"
"Yes, the mind stone. We have the time stone in our possession."
"'We?'"
"Those of us who have mastered the mystic arts." The image of the stones disappeared. "Speaking of the mystic arts and the infinity stones, there is a reason I called you here. We have reason to believe that your powers correlate to some of the infinity stones, but are unsure to what extent."
"That'd be pretty cool," I moved my sunglasses to the top of my head, "but how did that happen?"
"We don't know."
I nodded. In terms of answers, he has, or more likely they have, no answers. That's fun.
"But, I'm sure you haven't had much training in controlling your magic, have you?" he asked.
"No, I haven't. Most training has been with what I already know about my powers and some combat my dad knows. I haven't really gotten to explore their limits and such." I fiddled with my fingers.
There's not a ton that I know about my powers. Most of what I know comes from accidents that happened when I was younger and building a bit from those mistakes. It's not like I've gotten to see Wanda at all before this to understand a bit more.
"Would you like to learn to control your magic? I am the guardian of the institute in New York, so you wouldn't have to go far."
"Yeah, that'd be great. Wait, you said the institute of New York? Does that mean there are multiple locations where you could learn this mystic arts?"
"The institute here in New York, Kathmandu, London, and Hong Kong. You'll learn more in good time."
"When do we start the training?"
"I'll let you know." He handed me a slip of paper with his phone number on it and stood to walk away. "But I assure you, it will be soon."
He smiled before turning and walking away.
"Well that was interesting," I said aloud to no one in particular.
It's weird to think a sorcerer would come and talk to me about training. Is something going to happen? What if something crazy like an alien who wanted to kill half the population in order to "save the universe"? I think I had a dream about that once. . . it was kind of weird.
On the way back to the compound, I ran into MJ. We both weren't doing much for the rest of the afternoon, so we decided to hang out. We were walking to a used book store not far from where we ran into each other.
"So," I started, "how has your summer been?"
"You've seen me this summer. You know how my summer's been." She answered monotonously.
"What's your book count for the summer? You still have a few weeks till school so I'll have to know then as well."
"Well, it's less than last year, but I had to go on vacation with the family for a week to the beach and my mom told me I couldn't have my nose stuck in a book the entire time. So, if my calculations are correct, I have read a total of 62 books."
"Damn. You got ahead of me! I've only read 54." I sigh. I knew I'd never catch up. She'd read another eight I need to catch up before the school year starts. I wonder how many she reads in a year. . .
She snorted, "You'd never catch up to me even if I was totally banned from books during the week of family vacation."
"We have way too much free time."
"You may think that, but at least we aren't going out and wasting our time partying or doing other stupid stuff. We're learning the world from another's point of view."
We made it to the used books store not long after that and began to stroll the long isles. I find the (y/f/g) section and immediately find some books that interest me.
Reading so much lately has created a huge problem where I am running out of shelf space on the huge floor to ceiling bookshelves.
"Hey, (Y/N/N)? What's your opinion on me buying an old set of the original Sherlock Holmes novels?" MJ peaked out from behind the large shelf at the end of the isle.
"Not a bad purchase. Do you already own copies of the books?" I asked.
"Nope."
"Then that makes the purchase even better." I tapped my temple and turned back to the stack I had in my hands.
We purchased the books we had in hand and headed out of the store.
We didn't get far before MJ asked, "So what's up with you and Parker?"
"Wha-? What makes you think anything is going on between Peter and I?" I was shocked. Weren't we friends? What makes anything weird about that?
"God are you oblivious. I saw him pull you into a classroom before school got out. And that was after the whole incident at the coffee shop when you 'claimed' Parker was on a call for his internship-"
I interrupted her before she went into a full on rant, "You saw that? I thought you were late that day! You didn't show up for first period!"
She shrugged. "That doesn't mean I'm not at school. I had to help the president of the Decathlon team with something and it ended up taking all of first period."
"Nothing is going on and that is final," I said, really wanting the words to convince myself more than MJ.
"Okay," MJ backed down from the conversation. "Now, are you ready for another round of 'don't get me started'?"
"What's the topic this time?" I groaned.
Don't get me started is something she and I picked up back in the early days of our friendship where one of us picks a topic to rant about. MJ always takes this as an opportunity to pick the weirdest topics. It's been a while since I've been able to stump her on a rant.
"I think you might enjoy this one." She paused and grinned for effect. "Did you ever hear the tragedy of Darth Plagueis the Wise?"
I grinned back. She was in for a long rant. "Don't EVEN get me started on the prequel memes!"
