Austin

"Austin Curtis! Where are you!?" I heard Dad yell from the barn. I got off my horse, Thunder, and ran to the barn. I ran in and saw Dad looking down at a letter.

"Hey Dad." I said as I was out of breath. He looked up.

"Hey Austin. What were you doin'?" Dad asked.

"Ridin' Thunder." I replied. I started to walk closer to Dad.

"Oh, okay. Guess what." Dad said. I stared at him, waiting for him to answer. "We are goin' to Oklahoma! My hometown. We finally get to leave Texas for a while and go down to Oklahoma." Dad paused. "Or up." We started to laugh.

"Great, when are we leavin'?" I asked.

"Tomorrow. Me, you, and Mom get to go." Dad replied with a big smile.

"Wait, why are we leavin'?" I asked.

"A gang reunion." I stared at Dad. "It was a group of boys that I hung with when I was about your age. We called our group Greasers. Man, you can see your uncles and aunts and cousins for the first time." Dad sighed.

"Wait, I have uncles? And aunts? And cousins?" I asked with shock. Dad nodded walked walked over to his desk and sat down at the chair.

"You have two uncles. Darrel, who I call Darry, and Sodapop wh-"

"Wait, I have an uncle named Sodapop?" Dad stared at me.

"Well, you have a dad named Ponyboy... So I would think you know you have a uncle named Sodapop." We started laughing.

"Hun? Austin? Where are you?" I heard Mom ask at the barn door with her sweet, soft voice.

"We are back my work space, Sherri." Dad replied. I saw Mom walk over to us.

"Y'all. Dinner is ready." Mom said. Mom is really gentle. She's sweet and kind. Man, I want to date a girl like Mom. Sweet, kind, gentle, and pretty.

"Okay, and we are goin' to Oklahoma tomorrow." Dad said.

"I'm gonna call Adam real quick if y'all don't mind." I asked, looking at Mom.

"Go ahead. Don't take too long because the food will cold." Mom said.

"Okay, I won't." I ran out of the barn and started to run to the house. Our house is not really close to the barn, since we own a lot of land. I ran inside the house and ran up the stairs to my room. I sat on my bed and dialed Adam's number.

"Hello?"

"Adam! Hey, I won't be able to go to my basketball practices for a couple days." There was a pause.

"Why?"

"Because I'm goin' to Oklahoma so Dad and Mom can go see their old friends and I can't finally meet my uncles and aunts and cousins." I explained.

"Oh man, that's cool. Hey, you meet a hot girl, bring her to Texas to meet me." I started to laugh.

"I'll try. Got to go man, I have to eat dinner."

"All right man. I'll tell the Coach that you'll miss some practices." Adam said.

"All right." I hung up.
