----------MARE'S POV----------

I am tired of constantly hoping for things to just all of a sudden become perfect. I couldn't keep waiting for Cal to leave the Scarlet Guard, for Cal to leave me. My world has slowly crumbled ever since Shade died, then Maven took me and I thought it was all over. I can't lose Cal again, so even though the crown is against everything I stand for I can't lose Cal.

The meeting was too stressful for me even with Cal by my side, why can't everyone just accept the fact that I chose Cal? I ended up walking out not bothering to say anything else. I heard footsteps following me out, I assumed it was Cal.

"Mare what were you thinking? Why would you betray the Scarlet Guard like that?" Farley was staring daggers into my head, "You betrayed all the reds! You betrayed everything you stand for! You betrayed everything Shade stood for!"

"You are not allowed to bring Shade into this!" I could feel my anger boiling up inside of me as the sky darkened, filling with black storm clouds, "I have hit rock bottom more times than you can count! Cal is my one thing I can hold on to, if you were in my position with Shade would you choose him? Or would you leave him for the Scarlet Guard?"

I could feel the storm consume everything in me, all my anger, sadness, every broken piece of me. This time I didn't hold the storm back like I have done for so long, this time I gave into it.

Power surged through my veins, I took the power from the Rift, I made my own lightning, and I ran. I ran away from all the people who doubt me, everyone who hates me, I just ran. I didn't know where I was going, but I didn't care. I let my feet guide me as I let the storm take me. When I finally had gathered my raging storm inside of me, I stopped where I was. For just a moment everything was quiet and peaceful. Everything seemed right. I closed my eyes and released everything that I had kept tucked away for so long. I wouldn't be controlled by anyone anymore, I won't let the Scarlet Guard hold me back, nor will I let anyone who dares to stand in my way and tell me what to do hold me back. I was the storm now, and I will destroy anyone who tries to stop me.

----------CAL'S POV----------

Mare just walked out of the meeting, I couldn't follow her, even though I wanted to so badly. I watched as Farley followed her out. That eased my mind a little bit because I knew Farley wouldn't do anything that would hurt Mare.

The meeting continued on with many questions being shot at me.

"Will Norta even accept a Red Queen?" Nanabel asked.

"What will you change in Norta when you are on the throne?" Davidson shot at me.

"Why won't there be a Queenstrial, why can Mare just be put on the throne?" Volo sneered.

"I understand all of you have many questions and concerns, but those will be discussed at a later time. For now let us end this meeting because it is getting quite dark outside." I answered. I was tired of all of the questions that I had no answer to, and after all it seemed to be quite late.

"It is only 4:15 Tiberias" Nanabel proclaimed, "let us finish up with the questions first, and then we can call it a day."

"Well then can someone please expla-" I was cut out by the power going out. All the lights busted, leaving us in the pitch black.

"Samos could you please get you power back on?" a voice said.

Before the Samos family could do anything I lined the walls with a contained fire to provide light. Everyone gathered at the window to see if they could tell what was going on. The sky was completely black, but I could make out a figure sprinting back inside.

Farley is now behind me trying to catch her breath, "Mare ran o-".

Before I let her finish I was sprinting outside to find Mare. Purple lighting struck across the sky.

"FARLEY WHAT DID YOU DO?" I yelled at her.

"I knew she was mad, but I had no idea that she kept all of this inside of her," she responded.

More and more lightning started to strike the ground. I had no idea where she ran off to, but all I knew was I had to find her before she destroyed everything and everyone on the Rift. The lightning kept getting more frequent and stronger. After 5 minutes of hopelessly running, the lightning stopped and the black clouds faded away. I decided to try and climb a tree to see if I could see her from above. I thought the fit was over, but I was wrong.

This time lightning didn't just strike the ground, a wave of lightning spread across the whole Rift. If I wouldn't have climbed the tree I would have been knocked unconscious. I looked back to see a cluster of people knocked out closer to the castle. The waves of lightning kept coming, getting stronger each time. The tree I was in was strong enough to hold me, but I could tell it wasn't going to be able to hold me much longer. Fires were starting to engulf trees, and I did my best to contain them, but there were too many fires. The waves stopped, and clouds were building up in the sky again. The one strong bolt struck down in the middle of the forest, a few miles from where I was. One finale wave of lightning spread out across the Rift knocking down trees, and destroying everything in its path. I felt myself fall with the tree, then hitting the ground hard. It wasn't hard enough to knock me out. Getting to Mare was the only thought on my mind. The lightning had ceased which made me think the worse had happened. What if it was too much for her? Was she still breathing?

I ran as fast as I could towards where the last bolt of lightning struck, hoping that was where Mare was.
