"It is both a blessing
And a curse
To feel everything
So very deeply.""_______
Sylvia Harrington was never the one to be left behind. But these days she seemed to be, not only left behind but also left alone.
The man she loved was cheating on her and she wasn't able to find a reason to explain his infidelity. The thought of her being lacking in the ways of love came crashing down on her, a taunt her mind kept going back to, repeatedly stinging her heart and soul. But Sylvia wasn't the one to overthink either, she was way past that agonising phase. By now she was just painfully aware of her dwindling marriage and its persisting downfalls.
She wasn't going to try and save it because that would mean doing the dirty work of begging, yearning and second chances all of which would never be written in her books, even if it was for an extremely handsome, blue-eyed man she'd known her whole life. She was going to play along and ruin this relationship alongside her husband. After all, they always did do everything together.
That was exactly why a day before Chales' birthday, Sylvia was standing in front of her floor-length mirror, gauzing out her flawless reflection from it and making sure that no imperfections could be spotted.
Her off shoulder, pale pink Christian Dior satin gown was as glorious as it felt on her skin, the smooth material hugging her body in all the right places. The slit running along her right leg ended right at the middle of her thigh and as inspected her leg, the delicate and new gold chain on her ankle glistening slightly with every movement she made, almost as if it was present but never there- just the way she wanted it to be.
She looked exactly like an angel, even though she was far from that title. Her pastel pink and shimmery eye shadow dreamily accentuated her green eyes and a deep mauve shade complimented her full lips wonderfully.
She knew that she was beautiful but perhaps what was much more beautiful than her would be the four carat diamond choker adorning her delicate neck. It sat on her neck like a crown, a long-time possession gifted to her by her husband, Samantha had insisted she wear it and Sylvia was sick and tired of having to listen to the voices in her head so she had agreed but now the piece of jewellery weighed down on her like a burden, its glow radiating the look of all things evil.
She winced as her gaze fell onto her fingers tracing the diamonds embedded into the expensive necklace and instead scrutinized the huge one on her ring finger. The bright, asher-cut, 20 carat solitaire ring shone in every direction it was angled to. It was beautiful she thought-the dazzle, a witness to an everlasting union. But she was the only one supposed to look beautiful tonight and therefore with an ever-present frustration, she ripped the age-old heirloom off her finger along with the necklace and flung it across the mirror, leaving behind a harsh looking red mark on her neck and surprising Samantha who was busy with the task of helping Sylvia wear her silver Christian Louboutin heels.
"Leave me Samantha." Sylvia muttered breathing heavily, after which the helper hurriedly got up from her crouching position and left.
Sylvia was heartbroken but no one needed to know that especially not the helpers who saw her fling expensive jewellery left and right across the room- jewellery gifted to her by her ever absent husband.
