CHARLES POV

Weeks had passed when Margarita transferred to the States. It’s making me worry so much that I can’t even eat. I’m worried that I can’t protect her. Na hindi siya magiging okay. But I need to do the plan first.

I waved Mom goodbye as I grabbed the food on the table.

Tiningnan ko ang orasan. It’s too early so I planned na bibisitahin ko muna yung café.
Pagkarating ko sa kotse, I took my earplugs out and contacted my secretary. I started the engine and drove.

“Hello Sir JC?” she said.

“Update and appointments” I commanded.

“All shares are pulled out of the companies” she paused. “There’s a meeting with Mr. Elizalde, 1’oclock  and a dinner with your cousins at 5” she said.

“Also, pakiayos yung aiming room ko, I’m gonna practice”, utos ko at binaba na ang tawag. Nakita ko sa di malayuan ang Gray’s café, yung café na pinapalago at bibisitahin ko.

As I entered the establishment, they gave me warm smiles. I smiled back and walked to the counter.

“Hey” I started to initiate a conversation.
Humarap siya sa akin at mukhang nagulat.

“Bossing! Anong atin?” tanong niya sa akin.

He looked more mature compared noong hinire ko siya dito. He’s Jonathan.

I asked him.

“Mabenta pa rin naman po. Pero… yung biscuits nagiging out of trend na”, he explained.

Napaisip ako. I put out a recipe of biscuits entitled, ‘Sumbrero ni Juan’. I cleared out my throat and talked.

“Subukan niyo yan gawin” bigkas ko atsaka naglabas ako ng picture nung ginawa ko kagabi.

“Ganiyan dapat ang kalalabasan” dagdag ko.

“Jeremy!” tawag ko sa tagapag-ayos ng café.

“Yes, boss?” he said while wearing a smirk.

“Fix the café and make it Buwan ng wika themed” utos ko.

“Okay po sir” sabi niya at umalis.

“Lahat kayo ay dapat magsasalita ng wikang Filipino sa susunod na buwan. Isa itong gimik. Maliwanag ba?” I shouted so that every employee on the café can hear.

“Opo!” sabay sabay nilang sagot.

I started the engine again and drove.

As I reached SBIS, I can see Roger hanging out with Jorgie while Kristal is with a boy that I don’t know who. I took out my phone and captured a photo of them, unscathed.
Holding my phone, I sent the pictures to Margarita on Messenger and she instantly replied.

The other guy’s familiar

I don’t know him yet. I’ll ask bro later

MARGARITA’S POV

I’m typically living a new life right now. New house, new people surrounding me and new environment. Living like this is refreshing. I miss Tita Charlota though.

So, binili ko itong bahay, just a few blocks sa school na papasukan ko. I also brought a car na hindi naman ganon kaexpensive.

The problem is, I don’t know how to cook! I never live my life being independent. Guess I need to learn it nalang.

Lumabas ako ng bahay para maglakad lakad. Our class will start next month, so I still have time to loosen up and adapt. The landlady of the house that I bought said na meron daw dito ng Filipinos around kaso di ko alam kung sino. Ako?

I’m just walking around the neighborhood. Unlike Manila, kailangan ko pang magcab para pumunta sa cafes and stores for primary needs pero dito? Everything’s a walk away.

As in! Swerte ko naman ngayong araw.

She looked no ordinary person. She has slightly morena skin, straight hair and lips. She has black eyes and a slim body. She’s also tall. I guess, magkaheight kami.

“Oh sorry!” hinawakan niya ang bibig niya and said it in a sarcastic way. “Can you please have your eyes on the road?” she continued.

I just nodded in response.

“Tara usap tayo. My place.” She offered.

“Sure” sagot ko.

Naglakad kami papunta sa kanilang bahay. We went inside and I’m amazed how the house looked welcoming. It has some Filipino vibes roaming around. It has small wooden cabinets filled with plates and glasses. Also, meron din silang dirty kitchen. Their chairs are made with varnished mood and some lights are lid up yellow.

“Here take a seat” she offered me a chair and I gladly took it.

“So, kalian ka pa rito?” she asked.

“Kahapon pa lang” sagot ko.

“Mag-isa ka lang?” she asked me again.

I nodded in response as I sipped some water from my bottle.

“You’re rich, aren’t you?” With that question, nagsimula na akong magkuwento kung paano ako napadpad dito.

“It’s getting late, I should go. Salamat sa accompany, Janella” I smiled went home. Mabuti nalang kasi we’re only three houses away.

“Take care!” she said.

Janella and I will go to the same school and same class. Isn’t it great? I’m going to school with someone I know. I think beginning a new life is not bad at all.

I pulled out my phone from my pocket and checked my notifications. There’s a message from Charles. Is that, yung lalaki sa airport?

For confirmation, I typed ‘that guy’s familiar’ and turned off my phone.

I went inside my new home, locked the doors, and went upstairs and into my room. I did my night routine and jumped to my bed. I’m know that this feeling is new to me for I’ve been isolated my whole life. But I’m pretty sure that I liked it.
