Michael

Michael sat at the front of the cathedral and tapped his feet impatiently. The seats in cathedral were sectioned into two parts. One side held the guardians, scholars and all the administration sectors, including Michael and his brothers and sisters and the other side were for the military and soldiers, which was empty. The cherubs sat above them in their choir seats and at the front, on both sides of the altar sat all the head cherubs; the best singers in the Gloria. Melody was one of them and when she saw Michael looking her way, she winked and blew him a kiss.

Michael smiled uneasily and next to him, Aimee huffed annoyingly. Melody was ever getting aggressive in her pursuit and already her mind was turning towards dissolving his marriage to Seraphina. At all costs, he has tried to distract her but Melody was determined as she looked for ways to annul the marriage.

A figure to his left and hidden behind a pillar caught his attention and Michael discreetly moved his eyes to find Father Patrick waving frantically at him.

Hoping to see his wife in the public eye again, Michael had conspire with Father Patrick and written her a letter; a letter that was part scolding and part nourishing. If Michael had his way, the letter would’ve been a command for her to present herself. So far, she hadn’t responded and at the moment, it looked like she and her soldiers will not be attending according to the priest’s sadden and worried face. Melody had recently approached the Father too about the annulment and to her dissatisfaction, Melody’s request was denied.

Michael sighed and knew that he had buried himself deeper into his personal problems and after the assassin is captured, he knew he must work harder to redeem himself to his wife.

When all hope of seeing his wife in public was lost, a trumpet sounded, followed by heavy footsteps. Michael turned in his seat to find the Gloria’s soldiers entering and leading the pack was his wife in all her goddess glory. She wore a white and gold dress with a slit that allowed her tanned golden legs to show. Her wavy dark hair was smooth and luscious with a golden wreath rested on top.

The dress was tight and a far field away from the loose chiffon dresses that most angels wear. Today, Seraphina was all goddess; she was beautiful as she was powerful. Her green eyes were bright with intelligence and vengeance for injustice. She was definitely not meek nor was she willowy like Melody. Gentlemanly words could not describe what Michael saw walking towards him; only two words:

Sex Bomb

She walked to the front of the cathedral with confidence and a sense of power that made all the guardians stand and bow their heads.

Michael suddenly found himself on his feet and sadly to say, his mouth gapped open at seeing the most beautiful woman who was his wife entering the building. She nodded her head to greet him and his brothers and sisters but other than that, there was nothing else. As all the soldiers filled the empty seats, Michael couldn’t help but stare bluntly at his wife. In fact, if he could, he would’ve pulled her out of the cathedral and onto his bed within minutes.

Finally, mass begun and the cherubs sang the opening song beautifully but Michael’s mind was still focussed on his wife though his eyes stayed on Melody, who looked over to Seraphina’s side in annoyance. To show his wife that she was entering the cherub’s domain, Melody sang loudly, overshadowing the sopranos, who looked at her in confusion but in the end, they happily forfeit their post to Melody.

Finally, the main song was coming up. ‘Zadok the Priest’ was Melody’s pride and joy. It was a complicated song that required only the best singers to practice and practice to make sure that their tone was right. At the song’s opening, everyone stood up and waited as the orchestra played, bringing the cherubs up to their roles, but they never got to sing.
