~Carter~
“C’mon Carter, get out of the car.” Zane demanded with the back door of the old blue station wagon wide open. My suit cases were already waiting for me in my room but I was still stubbornly sitting in the car sulking like I baby. It was cloudy outside which made the coastal breezes cooler. I crossed my arms over my chest; my black hoodie covered my fresh scars from a couple nights ago when we were packing my things. I really didn’t want to come here and if I have to act like a child to be able to go back to Vermont then so be it.
“Carter Megan Ashlyn, we did not just drive almost four hours for you to act like a baby now get out of the car and get the help you need.” Zane snapped at me with a harsh tone. I drilled a whole into the back part of the passenger seat with my eyes. I was not moving an inch. Jewels came over the other side of the back seat to me with a gentle smile.
“Carter, we’re here to make sure you get the help you need and deserve.” She spoke in a kind voice that sounded fake because it was so sugary sweet. I frowned and sank deeper into the seat. From the corner of my eye I saw a tall brunette lady come out of the Californian style Hollywood hills mansion type building. She wore all white, great she’ll probably be making me do yoga and meditate. Her doughy brown eyes found mine as she crotched down beside me like I was a child.
“Carter, I’m Doctor Wallace, I’m your councillor.” She spoke with such grace and dignity. I rolled my eyes and sighed as I refused to move. Her caring smile caught my attention.
“You must be exhausted, and we understand you don’t want to be here and the staff here at Ocean View won’t make someone stay if they don’t please too. But your brother and sister-in-law look tired and you look hungry so just come in for breakfast then you can leave.” She told me with a calm and caring tone. I felt a cocky grin cross my face as I got what she was playing at. I looked her dead in the eye and shook my head.
“I’m not stupid; I’m not falling for your Buddha loving, meditating, care-free charm.” I spat back at her with a harsh tone. I watched as she arched an eye brow. I was getting under her skin, it was easy to tell. She had to re-centre herself before looking me in the eyes. Zane was growing impatient with me and Jewels was trying not to pull her hair out, that’d be a pity since she has such nice blonde hair. I was rather pleased with myself. Zane looked at me with a charming smirk as he bent down slightly, catching my line of sight.
“Carter, if you don’t get out of the car right now when we get home you can pack up and go live with Gran and Granddad because frankly I’m sick of this. Now what are you going to choose?” He asked with a serious voice. He kept his olive eyes glued to mine as we stared each other down. I knew he was serious; Zane would never make me go live with out Grandparents unless he’s fed up with me. Our Grandparents are the type of people who let you have no freedom. You study all day every day until you’re doing the shit in your sleep. I swallowed hard and broke eye contact with him, giving in. I pulled myself from the car, exposing my drab outfit. I just spent three and a half hours in a car with my brother and his fiancée, they lectured my about everything. So I decided a nice outfit was in order. I wore a black tee shirt that had a silver Celtic cross on the front with my grey jeans that had black strips on them. My black hoodie was done up all the way and my hood was up.
When I entered the building I was frisked down of all electrical items. Here at Ocean View they want us to be completely cut off from the outside world. No Ipods, Ipads, MP3 players, no phones, no cigarettes, no meds, and very, very limited media access. At the end of each week we get a phone call home, everyday we have a total two hours of sitting around watching TV, surfing the net or listening to music. And at the end of every day we have to email our loved one, who sent us here, telling them what we did today and we need to incorporate a picture of the activity we liked most. And that’s monitored as well. This place sounds more like a prison than a treatment facility.
Soon Zane and Jewels left, leaving me here to rot. I know exactly what I’m gonna say in tonight’s email.
I wandered around the spacious building aimlessly. Each room had our names on the door. I was in the room at the end of the hall; the spacious room have a nice big bed with a desk. There was a TV on the dresser. We even got our own bathrooms. My room had an entire wall that was just window, floor to ceiling, wall to wall window. Then was a normal lengthy window that looked out at the pool. My bags were piled up in the corner. I wasn’t going to unpack because I knew I wasn’t going to be staying long. I noticed the room across from mine. I curiously wandered over to the doors, seeing the names of the other ‘patients’ who were staying here. The room across from mine read ‘Sabal’. What an interesting name, you never run into too many Sabals these days. I bet she’ll be like the girl from Marry Had A Little Lamb. She’ll be all innocent and she’ll have dealt with some ‘trauma’ in life to make her come here. I rolled my eyes as I wandered over to my next door neighbour’s door. I squinted my eyes to see the name ‘Melissa’ written on the tag. Now that’s a common name. I’ve known many Melissa’s. Some were nice while others, I hope they get hit by a bus of spikes. From what I can see there is only girls here. Great its gonna be a cry fest the whole time.
I pouted and made my way down the long halls to an open room with a piano in it. There was also a couple couches, a little desk with an apple lap top and a flat screen TV that had a couple game consoles hooked up to it. I smiled as I approached the piano, trailing my finger along its silky black body to find the white keys. I found myself sitting behind the piano playing a song I heard like twice. I couldn’t remember a lot of it but I tried to get all the notes. I loved playing the piano; it was a better escape than what I do. I smiled as I pressed the last keys. My entire body jumped when I heard clapping from behind me. I turned to see a tall girl with long brown hair that had blonde highlights in it. She had hazel eyes and pale skin; I could see she had purple snake bites. She was standing in the doorway in a band tee shirt and red skinny jeans with black Doc Martins. Her arms were crossed over her chest as a charming smile crossed her face.
“You’re good.” She told me with a kind voice. I smiled uncontrollably and nodded.
“Thanks.” I replied softly, watching as she slowly made her way further into the room, step by lingering step. She stopped and turned to face me.
“I’m Elise by the way.” She said profoundly. I nodded and smiled charmingly.
“I’m Carter.” I introduced myself formally. The room fell silent. Until Doctor Wallace came waltzing in with a radiant smile on her face.
“Oh good! You two have met already, now come down stairs to meet the others.” Doc said happily. I rolled my eyes. Here we go.
