Chapter 9: Snow Maiden

3rd POV: 

Weiss was getting changed into her attire she had been wearing for the past month. She had been placed through extreme trials. From solo taming of dinos to managing tasks the Chief would usually manage while doing the duties of every major job the Society had to offer. She has been exhausted and bruised and feels like she'll break if she continues. Her body aches for rest but she won't give in. She's determined. The feelings for him that she felt have only grown. They have been inseparable since Y/N's Crowning as the next chief. He had been so kind to her and done his best to give her everything she'd want. But now she wanted him. 

She walked out hobbling a bit as her legs were that of Jelly. She pushed off of the wall that supported her and walked towards the docking area. The water had completely frozen over as they were now in the heart of winter. Yet her attire was revealing to many main parts of the body. A principle of a Handmaiden is that they do not feel shame. Everything they do is for the betterment of the people. She was cold. Extremely cold. Handmaidens were strong. And would brave the elements to serve their partners. She shivered as she walked towards the docks and soon arrived seeing Y/N standing and talking to the other Handmaidens.

Weiss walked onto the ice and joined him on the ice. She was the only handmaiden being put through trials at this time. Her instructor Irene came forth and looked at her.

"You've passed everything we've thrown at you. I'm impressed. Many would give up. And you're so thin. We expected you to fail right after the 3rd challenge." She said laughing as Weiss straightened her up and looked Irene in the eyes. It was clear she was extremely weak at this point.

"Never." Weiss said. Her voice was hoarse and broken. Irene smirked and picked up a sword. She tossed it at Weiss who barely managed to catch it.

"This is your final challenge. Beat me and you can choose who you want as your partner. Fail, and you'll never be a Handmaiden." Irene said as she raised her fists and circled Weiss. Weiss lifted the sword breathing heavily as she rushed Irene and swung the blade which Irene dodged with ease. Irene upon dodging kneed Weiss in the stomach causing her to double over and vomit from how hard she was hit.

"Pathetic. I didn't even have to try to dodge." Irene said as she kicked Weiss in the ribs causing her to tumble. Y/N winced seeing Weiss take the beating. Weiss on the other hand slowly rose grabbing the sword. She looked far worse than before and was coughing up blood. 

"Just wanted to see what I was up against." She said as she shot at great speed towards Irene who smirked and dodged punching Weiss in the Kidney. Weiss gasped in pain but quickly swung around slashing at Irene who bent backwards dodging the blade and flipped kicking the sword out of Weiss' hand. 

"Not so tough without your-" Irene was cut of when Weiss shot right at her and punched her square in the face. Irene doubled back groaning as she brought her hand to her nose seeing blood on her fingers once she pulled away. Some of the Handmaidens whispered in shock seeing Irene bleed. Y/N was impressed.

"Don't need one..." Weiss said getting into a push off position as she shot once again towards Irene who raised her fists smirking wildly ready to get serious. Half way there Weiss let out a breath as she collapsed to the ice as she slid landing at Irene's feet unconscious.

The Handmaidens panicked and quickly ran to her to make sure she was alright. Y/N ran towards her and knelt down checking her pulse. 

"She's weak, pulse is barely registering and her breathing is shallow." He said checking her implant and noticing her max health starting to decrease. Her torpidity wasn't falling either.
