The Lovely Silence [Hamilton Lams College AU] [Discontinued]

Chapter 2

Alex POV

Once John and I get to the restaurant, John starts serching for his friends. He finds them quickly since a girl in a yellow sweater is jumping up and down on top of the table.

"Calm the fuck down Peggy," John signs as we reach the table.

"Just making sure you saw us. Can't call for you," She signs back and she starts laughing.

"Hey John. Whos this?" A guy with a bandana around his head asks.

"Alexander Hamilton, But you guys can call me Alex," I respond.

"Jesus we got another talkless kid on our hands," A kid with a french accent mumbles. 

"Deaf or mute?" A girl in a blue sundress signs.  

"I'm mute," I respond. 

A girl with a pink blouse introduces herself first, "Angelica Schuyler."

"Eliza Schuyler," The girl in the blue sundress adds.

"And Peggy!" The girl with the yellow sweater exclaims.

"Hercules. But you can call me Herc," the bandana wearing kid says.

"Je m'appelle Lafayette. But you can call me Laf," The french kid finishes.

"Nice to meet you all," I sign. I can see John getting visibly upset, probably because they are all talking out loud.

"Sorry John. We were just introducing ourselves," Laf signs, also seeing that John is getting upset.

John visibly becomes less upset when everyone starts signing again. A waitress comes over to take our orders. Both me and John point to what we want since both of us are unable to talk.

[Technically John can talk but since he can't hear he doesn't know how and doesn't want to mess up his speach okay. Just go with it. If you must think of it as him being selective mute.]

The waitress leaves and a few minutes later brings us our drinks.

John and I are signing to each other while everyone else engages in another conversation.

"Are you selective mute or permanently mute?" John asks me.

"Permanent. I have been since I was born," I respond. He nods.

Everyone continues with their conversations for a few more minutes until the waitress brings us our food.

We finish eating about half an hour later and head back to the dorms. Turns out, Herc and Laf are right next door in dorm 1776.

The Schuylers are upstairs in a bigger dorm so all three of them could share.

When John and I get back to our dorm, we turn on a movie to watch. I quickly turn on subtitles before I forget.

John sits down by me and before the movie finishes I feel myself drift off to sleep.

Cheesey. Whatever. They do actually date in this story eventually so its not like my other stories where they dance around their feelings the entire time.
