Jason's POV --
Tonight got a little more out of hand than I expected.
At least, for once, I didn't cause a murder. One might have happened but I wasn't the reason behind it. I may have been an accessory but at least you'll never find a fingerprint of mine on the victim.
Unfortunately, I can't say the same for Brody or Ace.
I lost track of time the minute we were out the door and headed to seal a few patches. My guess would be that it's around somewhere between three or four in the morning. I wouldn't spend too much time speculating because overall, I was completely worn out. I've noticed that recently. How I've been growing tired so quickly. Not a single reason for it rose up in my subconscious so I suppose I'm just restless.
After walking into my house and dragging myself towards the staircase, for a while I simply stared up at the second floor. The couch was much closer from where I stood, I might as well crash on it for the night. Then again, my bed was always more comfortable and I didn't like the idea of waking up with some sort of pain. Ultimately, I forced myself up the stairs and trotted towards my room. Even a shower was out of the question, I had absolutely no energy, whatsoever, to do anything but sleep.
The door to my room was ajar. Nothing out of the ordinary, I guess, so I push the door open a little further and step inside. As I'm turning my back to shut the door, completely, a dog barks loud enough to rid of my exhaustion. The barking continues on until I whirl around and find, not only the dog but, Lea on my bed. Her body faced off in the direction of the balcony and her dog had it's paws propped onto her arm. Most of it's small body hid behind Lea, protecting itself as it growled and became antsy with fear. I merely blinked, rubbing my eyes with my index finger and thumb roughly. Maybe I was just seeing things but clearly I wasn't. I took a step forward and the dog barked, exposing every move I made. It wasn't long until Lea began to stir and slowly raise her hand onto the dog's face.
"Jasper, be quiet." She mumbled softly, lazily moving her arm to relieve it from the weight her dog put against it.
I wasn't sure whether to say something or to remain silent. Jasper barked a few more times and at last, Lea sucked her teeth irritatedly. Stretching her legs out, since she had been curled into a ball, she lies flat on her back and yawns. The sight of everything left me utterly perplexed, I had so many questions but no way to form them. My voice had disappeared and it wasn't until Lea finally laid her eyes on me, that I completely lost the ability to speak. She hesitates, then sits up, waves of hair falling over her shoulders graciously.
"Jason?" She said my name in the form of a question although she knew very well it was me standing a few feet away from her. I guess she had nothing else to say and hopefully she wasn't anticipating a reply of some sort because I was at a loss for words.
What could I say anyway? Hey? Hi? What are you doing here? All of those sound stupid as fuck and I would dread hearing myself say it. Thankfully, though, Lea stood up on her small feet and walked over to me faster than I've ever walked away from the police. In seconds, she had her arms around my torso, squeezing me tightly like she's been longing for my return. I look down at her, arms frozen in too much confusion to move properly. Eventually, I lock my arms around her shoulders and wait until she's ready to speak.
