Quiet

I throw my body down the stairs
And with every bump of every step
I see the stars I've missed so much
Since the world closed its doors
The moon has no light to bask in now
And the sun is a broken promise
There is only silence and pain here
At the bottom of the stairs
I step out into the street
And I am whisked away
Beneath the feet of the marching masses
Pummeled by the footfalls
Of sad and angry people
Who refuse to suffer in silence any longer
I am ground into dust
By the weight of my own insignificance
The Earth sways beneath the
Like Mother Nature is rocking my cradle
And rumbling distant lullabies
About fire and stone and death
Last year I was a stone
Sinking through the water
Today I am a bone
Floating at the surface
Carried by a current
That started hundreds of years
And thousands of miles away
The water is deep and dark
And I want to drown in it
Alone and unacknowledged
Where the sunlight through the trees
Dapples my face
And the peace will be unbroken
By my slipping beneath the surface
And passing into dream
Tomorrow is a new chance
To make the same mistakes
And repeat
Repeat
Repeat
Repeat
Repeat
Re...
...peat
