Charlotte has always been good when we travel, since that's all we do during the summer. Now that preseason had started, we would be staying in Pittsburgh...
When we got back from visiting my family in Colorado, that is.
Sidney would be on the road for almost a week, so I took advantage of that and went to spend some time in Colorado Springs before the weather got bad and season was in full swing.
Now, when I say she's been good when we travel, I mean that she doesn't scream on the plane. Or she didn't. Now that she's almost three, she hands out the sass like it's going out of style. Having more children seemed like a great idea until now. I'm not sure I could handle two Charlottes and I'm not sure Sidney could handle three girls in the house.
Not only did she not want anything besides candy, but I couldn't get her to drink anything either. We went fro Pittsburgh to Minneapolis to Denver and my parents would pick me up there. We weren't even in the air an hour before I wanted to give up.
"Charlotte, just have some water. Or juice. I could get you some juice." I tried to reason with her, but it's impossible. She was hard headed, just like her father.
"No." She just kept playing on the ipad, drawing pictures with one of the apps I had downloaded the day before. She was pretty content with what she was doing so I stopped trying to get her to do anything. I pulled out the book I was reading and let her be.
Then we landed at MSP. We had a decent layover, so I looked to see where we could sit down and eat. I was holding onto Charlotte's hand when Sid called and I dropped my phone.
"Hey love."
"Hi Sid." I let go of Charlotte's hand and I watched her brown curls run down the people mover. "Shit. Charlotte! Charlotte be careful. Don't run into people!"
I could hear my husband laughing through the phone. I shoved my phone in my pocket, running after her.
"Charlotte you can't go running off in an airport like that. Let's go get something to eat." I grabbed her hand and my phone. "Sorry. I was chasing your daughter across the airport."
"My daughter? She gets her sass from you. She's a handful, just like you are."
"Yeah I'm totally a handful." I laughed, "What do you want to eat, Charlie."
"Sketti!"
"What about chicken? Let's go get chicken." I lead her onto the escalator to the food court. She might not have wanted it, but I wanted chik-fil-a and I get what I want. Just ask my husband.
"When do you get into Denver?"
"Six, I believe. Eight Pittsburgh time."
"Okay, I got your tickets for the game. They'll be at will call under your name."
"Thanks sweetie. I should probably go. Charlie is crabby and we all know how that works out."
"Okay, I love you."
"I love you too, Sidney. I'll see you in a couple days."
Once I was off the phone with my husband, I was able to give my full attention back to my daughter which was definitely needed. Especially in a big airport like this.
