Playing Soldier Field

Going to away games wasn't something I did all the time. It was more of a special occasion. I still watched the game, I just watched it from our home. This time was different though. I got to fly to Chicago and watch him play. I knew it would be a tough game, but I was excited to be there.

I had been going to family skates for a while now, but this one felt different. A good kind of different.

Sidney was already on the ice, playing with the little kids and messing around with his teammates, when I finally got my skates on. I started making my way around the rink when he skated up, grabbing my hand and placing a kiss on my temple.

"How was dinner?"

"Great, how was practice?"

"Not the best."

A lot of our dates were skating on a pond in the middle of winter.

I was sharing a room with Maureen Kunitz and her children while we were in Chicago. I was checking my planner when I realized something was off.

"Hey Mo," I called across the room. She was in the bathroom getting her children ready for bed.

"Yeah?"

"How late were you when you took your pregnancy test?" I spun around in the desk chair, still holding my planner.

"Around 2 weeks, why?" She came out of the bathroom and leaned against the door jam.

"Well I'm about a week and a half.." I wasn't sure how to feel about being pregnant. I mean, we weren't exactly trying, but we weren't exactly trying to prevent it either.

"We need to get you a test then," she seemed really excited as she dialed a number on her phone, "Hey, bring Estelle over. We need you to get a test for Mrs. Crosby over here."

There was a pause, "Yes, one of those tests."

Almost immediately, I was forced to fill up my water bottle and drink it's contents. I played with Estelle while her mother went out for me.

"Who has the cutest chubby cheeks? You do. Yes you do," I heard the door open and looked up.

"I hope you have to pee, cause I got two," she held the bag out for me and I opened the box in it. Taking only one test out, I went into the bathroom.

"The sooner the results pop up, the more likely you're pregnant!" One of them shouted outside the door. Good to know.

I walked out of the bathroom already knowing what the stick said, "So umm.. I was thinking Scarlett or Charlotte for a girl," I didn't get to finish my sentence before they were screaming and hugging me.

"You can't tell him until after the game though," Vero told me.

"Why not?"

"Because if they win, it makes it even better. If they lose, he won't feel as bad," Maureen answered for her.

"Guess I'll be telling him tomorrow night."

I saw him the next morning and I could barely hold back from telling him. He noticed I was acting weird and kept asking about it. Every time, I would tell him that I was fine. Just didn't sleep well. Watching the game was a little painful. The guys didn't play as well as they should have, but everyone has off games. Chelsea Dagger would be stuck in my head for a few days though.

Sidney was visibly upset after the loss to the Blackhawks. I wasn't sure if I should tell him or not. I knew to not bother him after games like that. I usually just let him be and snuggle up to him when he goes to sleep. This time was different though, I figured this was important enough to tell him about.

"Hey Sid, I need to tell you something," he looked up at me with a blank stare and didn't reply, "I um.. I'm pregnant."

His eyes got wide and a smile finally broke. He pulled me onto his lap and hugged me. Sidney simply said, "I can't wait to meet our baby," before kissing me.

"Hey, maybe you'll remember this outdoor game!" I joked with him, making his smile bigger.

"I love you."
