Charlotte wasn't happy that she had to share her father with multiple other children for a few days. However, getting to see Taylor every day for most of the summer made up for it. She loved seeing her aunt more so than her grandparents.
One day, after all of the campers had left, Sidney, Nate, and Taylor brought out Charlie in her full hockey gear and started teaching her to skate. I argued that she was too young, but apparently they thought differently. I knew that none of them would let her get hurt, that didn't mean I wasn't nervous, though.
There were a few tears, but she seemed to really enjoy it. Especially when Nate picked her up and skated around so she could rest. Say what you want about hockey players, but get a little girl in their life, or a woman they love, and they're just a bunch of softies.
Sid skated over to the bench, getting off the ice.
"So you're actually leaving our daughter alone with a hockey player, while he's skating?" He laughed, taking our son from me.
"Yeah, she'll be fine. She likes him."
"Is Beau getting replaced?"
"For the summer, yes."
"You are going to have trouble when she grows up."
"Me? You're her mother."
"So I tell her to be safe and wait."
"Whoa, whoa, whoa. She is not dating until she's 18."
"My parents told me not to date until I was 16.. So I didn't. I just kissed a lot of boys." The look on Sidney's face was priceless. I knew how to handle a teenage girl. He was definitely scared that Charlie was going to end up like her mama.
Taylor left Nate and Charlie alone, coming over to us for a drink of water. She started laughing at the way her brother was reacting to my past. "Just because you were too busy with hockey to have a life, doesn't mean anyone else was too." She sprayed him with the bottle, just after he handed back our son. "You were also too busy ruining my dating life by being you."
"You don't need a dating life, you have hockey."
"Or Nate." I laughed, but Sidney didn't. Taylor's cheeks just turned red.
"No."
"When are you getting out on the ice?" Taylor asked. I hadn't been skating since before I had Raider. Me getting on the ice was not going to be a pretty thing.
"Who knows. Unless I have someone to watch Raider, I'm with him all day." The little boy in my arms was giggling and pulling on my hair. I realized why some moms chop it off, but I definitely wanted to keep mine.
"I can watch him." Nate offered as he helped Charlotte off of the ice. She went right for Sid, which wasn't surprising.
"No." Sidney didn't let any of the young guys babysit until they were two. Kind of funny if you ask me. "Taylor or my parents can take them tonight."
"I have a date."
"With your nephew."
"I'm sure Charlie and Raider would love another day with your parents. Let Taylor have fun."
"Oh, I don't really have a date. Just wanted to see Sid's reaction."
"Was it worth it?"
"So worth it."
