Kaura let out an audible sigh.
Shit.
Kaura knew that she couldn't fight Kylo-Ren for long, so she'd have to come up with a plan.
"I told you I wasn't done with you yet." Kylo said smugly.
Kaura stood there like a deer in headlights with her lightsaber raised, not knowing what to do. Kylo stood there ominously with his mask back on and his lightsaber still at his hilt.
"What's going on?!" Poe yelled over the communicator. Kaura cringed.
Kylo simply raised his hand and used the force to send the communicator flying down the hallway, cutting off all of Kaura's communication with Poe and the resistance.
That's when Kaura remembered the door she had to pass through. It only closed from the outside. If she could get through it before Kylo-Ren, then she could close it and buy enough time to run to Poe's X-Wing.
This time Kaura had to be more bold. Acting on the offense, she charged Kylo-Ren with her lightsaber. He barely got his lightsaber out in time to block her. Then as Kaura pressed her lightsaber against his, she used it as a chance to pivot around so she had her back in the direction of the door.
Then Kaura let Kylo swing at her. Defying her fighting instincts, she backed up as he took his blows and blocked them as best as she could. She wanted him to bring her closer to the door.
Kaura also figured it was a good idea to keep him distracted so he wouldn't figure anything out.
"Take that stupid mask off." She taunted him, taking another step back.
"If I take the mask off will you talk to me?" Kylo responded.
Kaura was confused.
"We're talking right now."
Kylo just sighed and ripped his helmet off with her free hand and tossed it to the side.
"Happy?" He questioned her.
"Not exactly." Kaura answered.
Kylo ignored her snarky comments.
"Have we met before?" He asked her. "I feel like I know you."
Kaura's heart sank. So he sensed it too.
"No." Kaura answered simply.
They were both still fighting, but Kaura noticed that Kylo-Ren wasn't actually trying that hard to strike her. She didn't understand.
"I know you feel it to." Kylo told her.
"Well, we're both force users so.." Kaura said, trying to shrug it off. She continued to take a step back every time Kylo swiped at her.
"I've met other force users before." Kylo countered. "This is different."
Kaura didn't say anything to that. She was kind of hoping it was just because they're both force users. She had never met another before.
"Let me train you." Kylo spoke up. Before Kaura could even say anything he continued. "The resistance acts like they know everything. But there's a reason I'm standing here today. There's a reason the First Order exists."
Kaura stared at him even more confused.
"You don't know your family, do you?" Kylo questioned her. Kaura's eyes widened. "I can help you figure out who they are. There are some things that the light side cannot do for you. Join me."
How did he know?? And more importantly, Kaura wondered why she found herself considering his offer?
Kaura didn't say anything at first. As she continued to take steps backward, she saw something on the ground. It was the communicator.
Poe had believed in her long before Kylo-Ren. Kaura remembered her mother's dead body with a resistance necklace around her neck. The resistance was going to be Kaura's connection to her mother and the rest of her family- not the First Order.
For the first time since meeting him in the interrogation chamber, Kaura met Kylo-Ren's eyes.
"Your people are the reason my mother is dead." She spat before taking a huge swing at Kylo-Ren.
Kaura's blade scraped against Kylo's arm until he pushed it away with his own. She clearly only got a shot in because he wasn't expecting it.
"So this is how it will be." Kylo-Ren said.
Suddenly, he was no longer calmly swinging his blade at Kaura. He didn't hold back as he swung at her and she struggled to block his blows.
Kaura quickened her pace as she took longer and more frequent strides backwards. She was getting closer, but she still needed to give herself a window to run through the door before him.
"You can't back away from me for long." Kylo smirked at her. His saber clipped Kaura's arm again and she winced.
The door was close. Kaura didn't know how she knew that since she was walking backwards, but she did. Now was her opportunity.
"Poe! I'm over here!" She yelled, pretending to look over Kylo-Ren's shoulder for a man that wasn't there.
Kylo-Ren whipped his head around right away, his free hand balled up in a fist. Kaura didn't wait a single second before sprinting as fast as her legs could physically carry her. She was pretty sure she had never run this fast in her entire life.
Kylo-Ren heard her loud footsteps and quickly realized what she was doing.
"Hey! Get back here!" He spat.
Kylo ran after her, but Kaura was still already way ahead of him. The door was merely a few feet away now. She was so close.
In the moments before Kaura slid through the door, Kylo-Ren reached out to try and grab her arm but only ended up grabbing a fistful of air. Kaura barely made it and slammed the button to close the doors behind her and punched in the password. She didn't hesitate for a second before jumping back into a full sprint.
Kaura kept running, knowing it wouldn't be long before Kylo got the door open. Soon the docking bay was within sight and Kylo-Ren was nowhere to be seen. Kaura relaxed a little, but did not slow her pace at all.
Kaura was closing in on the docking bay, but that meant the door was out of her sight so she had no way of knowing if Kylo-Ren made it past the door and was chasing after her. To be safe, Kaura acted as if he had.
She sighed with relief when she saw a black X-Wing with the resistance symbol painted on it. Poe. Figuring she was in the clear for now, Kaura switched off her lightsaber and raced towards it.
For once, hope was paying off.
