The Story of Them: PART I

[THIRD PERSON]

"Kim Hyunji, right?" The school clinic nurse asked and the young lady nodded in response. "So Hyunji, you were meaning to tell me that you got hit by a basketball and this guy . . ." His gaze darted at the young man who's in guilt before bringing his eyes back to the so-called patient. "carried you in bride-style all the way from the gym to this place when he could have just summoned me to bring you an ice-pack?" He sounded exaggerated. The clinic is right next to the school gymnasium.

It's so embarrassing, Hyunji thought nevertheless, facepalming mentally. A lot of people saw them, otherwise, there won't be bunch of them outside the clinic, sticking their noses in their business. Kim Hyunji is thankful for the curtains.

"Can I go, sir? I feel completely fine." If it wasn't for the shock and Jeongguk's strong arms, she wouldn't end up defenseless and hiding her flushed face in the crook of his neck earlier.

"No, she's not." Jeongguk finally spoke. Even he doesn't have any idea what he's doing, but somehow he feels that this is right. "She was wobbling, and if I hadn't caught her in my arms, she would probably hit her head again."

"But I didn't, sir."

"Because I didn't give her a chance."

"How nice. He sounds like he care."

"Because I do. If only I could take the hit . . . instead . . ."

There was an awkward ellipsis.

These kids, Kim Seokjin chortled to himself. The kids are sitting next to each other on the same bed, only a meter of space between them, hence it made the oldest ponder how hard it is for them to talk directly to each other? And what's on the floor? Do they see something I can't see? They seem to find the dirty white tiled floor eye-catching.

Seokjin mentally shook his head, chuckling. In all of those years he spent studying nursing, he was determined to get a job in one of the most famous hospitals in Korea. He dreamed of being one of those cool nurses in action similar to the ones he sees in dramas. Not even once he thought he would end up being a nurse practitioner in a school, let alone being a counselor of the two lovebirds before him.

He knew Jeon Jeongguk. He's one of the treasured athlete in the school. It was vivid to his memory that the said young man was admitted for having a sprained ankle last year. He remembered countless students rushing to his clinic to sent the soccer player gifts and medicines. He became a courier more than a nurse that time. It was dramatic.

Seokjin never thought something could be more dramatic than that, until Jeongguk knocks on the door with a grumpy damsel in distress in his arms. He thought the young lady got shot or something.

But the hit wasn't that serious. She seems okay. She is okay and she can even talk straight.

But emotion-wise, both of them are not. Seokjin with his keen eyes and past experiences, he knew something is wrong.

Ah. These young lovers in quarrel.

"I'll go buy medicine for post-concussion headaches. We got out of stock." The nurse practitioner lied. He could probably find few bottles if he only looked around the post. He almost laughed when he saw their head perked up in unison. "Stay here, I'll be back in few minutes." Fifteen minutes will do, they should probably made up with that time, Seokjin thought and other than that, it will also take him some time to drive the audience away from his clinic. They can totally hear the chattering at the other side of the door.
