Chapter 25: Nothing Changes

Liddan sets down the last box in Marigold's livingroom. He sighs as Malcon jumps on top of it and cheers over the success.

"That was fun..." Liddan groans. He pants and wipes the sweat from his forehead. "Why is summer so...hot?"

"It's July, heat should be expected." Marigold said as she put a glass of lemonade on the box he was leaning against.

"OW!!" Marigold rushed towards Laurie, who graciously was building an extension on the house for Marigold.

"You okay?" She said as she handed Laurie a cup of lemonade.

Laurie wipes his face with his shirt. "I'm good." He mumbles. This was the third time he'd crushed his thumb with his hammer.

"Is it just the weather or is something on your mind?" Marigold asked.

Laurie rubs his head and mumbles, "Are you bothered by the fact that you're moving in with a guy?"

"No, not really."

Laurie cringes at her reply, but just swallows the lemonade and gets back to work.

"Are you hot?"

Laurie turns to see Sylvie, who is wearing nothing but a bikini, offering a wet towel to Laurie.

"Err....I'm fine." Laurie mumbles. He somewhat backs away, only to have Sylvie press her chest up against him.

"It's nice and cold, it surely would feel good on your neck." Sylvie wraps the towel around Laurie's neck, his face goes deep red as he tries to escape from Sylvie's seductive clutches.

Marigold, spying from the other room, whispers to Liddan, "They're pretty friendly..."

Liddan peaks over himself. "Oh yeah, they've been 'close' (you decide what that means) since they were kids. Sylvie never went out when she was a kid but people occasionally visited her. Me and Nashi would visit her sometimes, which is why Nashi and Sylvie hate each other. But her most frequent visitor was Laurie. His dad and her mom are good-ish friends, so Laurie would play with Sylvie and Gideon a lot. He was probably her only good friend outside of the family."

Marigold and Liddan watch as Sylvie's top mysteriously comes off and Laurie is frantically attempting to run away.

"And then..." Marigold begins.

"And then Sylvie got her stripping problem." Liddan finished. The two sneak back into the livingroom when Nashi enters.

"Oh! You're finally here! What's up?" Marigold said, presenting her lemonade to Nashi.

"It's so hot..." She moans. Nashi take the lemonade and pours it in her head to cool herself off, she immediately realizes her mistake and squeezes her eyes shut. "That was lemonade, wasn't it."

"I'll get a towel." Marigold said as she sprinted to the bathroom. Marigold cleans Nashi's hair and face thoroughly and helps her sit down on the sofa.

"Okay Nashi," Marigold says, "you've been completely out of it since Gideon left for that mission."
