nine; date

nick picks me up. i made sure my makeup looks good. i think he's going to ask me to the homecoming dance. i don't really have feelings for him but i've always found him really attractive.

"hey nick" i hope in the car

"hey liv" he smiles at me

the car ride was quiet. it was raining outside and was a bit cold

"so you didn't have practice tonight?" i ask as we pull into the parking lot

"no our coach got sick" he looks at me

"that sucks. especially before our homecoming game"

"yeah i guess, but we've been practicing non stop" i guess he was right, every time we have plans, he has to cancel due to football

he holds the door open for me and i walk inside

"ladies first"

i giggle past him. i feel nervous for some reason. i know he wants to ask me to the dance, but he seems so nervous, which is weird because he's so popular. he's the biggest jock in school and pulls all the girls. plus he has great style

we both stand in line. i'm not hungry so i just decide to have a shake instead of a meal. i get out my credit card and he stops me, "it's okay liv i said i would pay"

i smile at him. aw he's being such a gentleman. i feel butterflies in my stomach. i've never looked at nick like this. he's always been a friend to me, but this felt different

we sit down and kendal walks up to our table. why does this bitch have to ruin everything.

"how many guys do you go out with on a daily olivia?" she asks me

"it's not a date" nick looks at her

i smile, he has my back but i got a little upset when he said it

"mind your business" i look at her

"so first my boyfriend, and then nick, who's next?" she takes the cherry out of my shake and pops it into her mouth and drops the stem on the ground

"kendal leave me alone" i look at her

"aw little olivia-" she frowns at me

"she said to leave her alone kendal, she's not worth our time anyways" griffin comes up behind her and hugs her waist from behind

"yeah okay i guess," she looks at him on her shoulder and they kiss. they walk away with griffins arm wrapped around her, "shes slept with so many guys she's starting to look like one-"

i get up, fuming at her remark

"liv sit back down she's not worth it" nick starts

"save it," ignore him and grab my shake, "kendal what did you say?" she turns around and looks at me up and down

"i said you have slept wi-" i take the milkshake and turn it upside down on her head

"what a waste of a milkshake," i frown at her covered in it, "too bad, strawberry was my favorite flavor too," i glance at her and try not to crack a smile, "wow kendal, that color suits you well, you should wear it more often"

she stands stunned and griffin just laughs at her. nick and the rest of the restaurant looks at her shocked with their mouths open

"griffin do something!" she screams

"yeah, let's get you cleaned up sweetheart," he opens the door for her and she walks out, he looks back at me and winks, smiling

reya comes out fuming, "liv could you not have done that outside?" she whines as she brings out a mop

"oh sorry reya, i forgot you worked here! it was worth it though" i grab the mop from her

"it's okay you don't need to help me," she grabs the mop from my hands, "and yeah, it was worth it" she smiles to herself

we both hate kendal, and her whole clique.

"thanks reya" i smile and walk back to my table "sorry nick" i open my mouth to continue to talk but nothing comes out. he looks at me. "so what did you want to tell me, or ask me?"

"oh yeah, um well i-" he starts stuttering and looks around too see if people are staring, which they weren't

i save him, "hey by the way, do you want to go to homecoming with me?" i smile at him

he looks at me shocked, i smile

"i know usually the guys ask the girls but you know, you were nervous so i just asked first"

"yeah, okay, thanks" he smiles at me, "wanna get out of here?" he gets up

"yeah, let's go" he opens the door for me and i see maddie in the parking lot

she turns and sees me and runs up to me and nick "oh my god did you actually do it?" she squeals

"what?" me and nick ask

" no not you nick, well yes you , but liv did you dump your shake on kendal?" her face lights up

"oh yeah" i laugh, "and, me and nick are going to homecoming together" i beam and hug him from behind

she looks at me and nick puzzled, "what? why?"

"what do you mean why?" i ask

"i- i- never mind"

"no tell me, maddie"

"nothing," she shrugs, "i forgot what i was going to say, sorry"

"no, tell me"

"i forgot"

"you know, why can't you just be happy for us? nick, let's go"

"liv, you know i am" she starts

"it's okay maddie, maybe you can go with griffin or something, he probably broke up with kendal after today. but you don't need to be jealous of me" i roll my eyes and walk to nicks car

she says something to him "nick come on" i whine

"sorry" he says to her and we get in his car

"what was that all about. why is she being such a bitch right now" i buckle up

"liv i just-"

"nick i'm not in the mood to talk right now, i'm sorry. please just take me home"

"okay" he drive me home

well i just blew our chance.
