Welcome to the revised version of 'A Raven's Tale'.
While this is the 4rth book in the Sarah & Khadgar Chronicles, it is a story which, I hope, can also be enjoyed as a tale in its own right - particularly for those who do not wish to go through the entire series.
It has undergone a major re-edit. The story, while I still claim it was and still is one of my favourites in the series, was not without some truly awful prose. That combined with heinously long chapters qualified it for some serious re-working.
This has resulted in the story going from 22 chapters to 69 - gives you an idea of how long the original chapters were!
Oh, my God!
Don't even go there!
Anyway, I have to say this latest version is vastly improved. It is trimmed, tighter, more coherent. I confess, I stumbled over a good few faux pas as well, and have ironed them out to the best of my ability (always room for improvement though) so, all in all, it should be a more pleasant reading experience.
I'd actually forgotten how goddamn funny it was in parts too, and I had a good old chuckle over some of the raven's exploits.
The initial inspiration for this story is rather macabre - so you have been warned! Here goes:
I woke one morning to find my cat had delivered a present - yes, you guessed it - a raven. Sadly, the poor bird did not survive Loki's feline game of tag, and I had to lay it to rest in the garden - RIP (Raven in Pieces).
Here's a pic of the culprit, Loki, by the way. Looks like butter wouldn't melt in his mouth, eh?
That aside, other inspirations: - World of Warcraft, (of course) my own creations in the universe (of course), but ALSO James Herbert's Fluke.
WHAT?! Yes, the tale of a man reincarnated as a dog played a big part in helping me come up with the story.
