I sat in my assigned seat in my science class as my teacher was rambling on about photosynthesis or something like that. For some reason, I was really good at science but that wasn't a good thing as I was always used as a tutor for the kids my age that weren't good at it.
''y/n, I need you to be Ruel's partner for the science homework as his grades are slipping.'' Mrs Smith, my science teacher, explained.
I reluctantly nodded, mentally cursing as Ruel was a popular boy that loved to pick on people like me. He was nice until his music career took off, then he became a total dickhead.
Soon after, the bell rang and all of the students swarmed out of the classroom to get to break. I slowly walked out, not wanting to get caught in the rush. I saw my friend, y/f/n, walking out of her classroom and I made my way over to her.
''Hey y/n, what's wrong?'' She asked me, immediately realising that I wasn't okay.
''I got partnered with Ruel for the science project.'' I sighed.
she didn't reply to my statement, instead she pointed behind me. I turned around and was met with Ruel standing there proudly.
''what's up, l/n?'' He asked, using me second name for affect.
''What do you want, Ruel?'' I snapped.
''Jeez, I just wanted to ask if we're doing the project at your house or mine.'' He said, putting his hands up in defence.
''My house at six.'' I said bluntly, not wanting to talk to him.
''See you then.'' He said, turning on his heels and walking away.
Ruel already knew where I lived as we used to be close friend, but that was before he had a music career and decided that I wasn't good enough for him.
The day passed slowly by. Every minute, I became more anxious because of what was to come. School ended and I walked home on my own as my friends lived on the other side of my town. Halfway through my walk, someone put their arm over my shoulder causing me to stop.
''Hey, baby.'' The boy said, he was called Tom and he was in my Spanish class.
''I'm not your baby, Tom.'' I said, trying to get his arm off of me.
''Come on, sweetheart. I know you want it.'' He said, moving his hands down my body.
''Get off of me!'' I shouted, trying to push him away from me.
I stood there attempting to push him off for a while before somebody shouted and pushed him off of me.
''Don't touch girls without their permission.'' The boy that saved me seethed.
I looked up to thank the boy for helping me and immediately I recognised him, it was Ruel. Tom quickly scrambled away.
''Thanks.'' I said quietly, already beginning to walk away,
''Wait up!'' Ruel shouted, running to catch up with me.
''What do you want?'' I asked, tired of him already.
''Well, I may as well come to your house now and start the project early.'' He said.
''Fine.'' I replied and looked forward.
The walk to my house was awkwardly quiet, neither of us had anything to say. When we arrived, my mum was already home and she opened the door.
''Oh my, are you who I think you are?'' My mum asked, excitedly.
''If you think that I'm Ruel, then yes.'' He joked.
''Come in, come in.'' My mum said, ushering us both into the house.
We both took of our shoes and walked up to my bedroom to start the project.
''Your room hasn't changed at all.'' Ruel smiled.
''Yeah, I don't care. Lets get on with the project so that you can go home.'' I said.
We both got out our science books and began working on the project. I got out some colourful paper so that our work would look nicer and Ruel began laughing at me.
''What's so funny, van Dijk?'' I asked, not amused.
''You haven't changed one bit, you know, since we were friends.'' He answered.
I didn't reply I just continued to flip through my book and look for answers to the questions.
''Why aren't we friends anymore?'' Ruel asked, fiddling with a pen.
''Apparently I'm not good enough for you.'' I said, my expression blank.
''I didn't mean what I said to you when I went on tour, I'm so sorry.'' He explained.
''Then why did you say it?'' I shouted trying to conceal my sadness.
''Because I liked you and I still do but I couldn't handle everything that was going through my head at once so I decided that it would be best to get you out of my life and focus on my music.'' He explained, putting his head in his hands.
''You like me?'' I asked, taken aback.
''Yeah.'' He blushed.
''I like you too.'' I smiled.
He sat down next to me on my bed and asked, ''Can I kiss you?'' Whilst smiling widely.
''Only if you can tell me where the main site of photosynthesis is.'' I smiled, knowing that he would have no clue despite it being what our project was based around.
''I don't know, the stem?'' He guessed, jokingly pouting.
''The leaf, you dummy.'' I giggled, leaning in anyway.
Ruel pulled away and said, ''This was the best day ever.''
''And why's that?'' I smiled.
''I just kissed you, I have my best friend back and you've taught me science.'' He said, pulling me into a hug.
''Thank you.'' He whispered into my ear.
