I was at the ARIA music award with my older brother, Alex (one of the people that was nominated for that award), who was a singer. He was nominated for 'breakthrough artist' a long with Ruel, Jack River and Mojo Juju.
I sat with my brother in the crowd of people, clapping for everyone that won an award. I looked at Alex and he looked extremely nervous.
The time had come for 'breakthrough artist' to be announced. I smiled at my brother, attempting to calm him down.
'The ARIA for breakthrough artist goes to Ruel!' Troye Sivan announced.
I clapped for Ruel, knowing that he was just as worthy for the award as my brother was.
I rubbed my brother's shoulder, comforting as I knew he would be disappointed.'I'm not upset, y/n, Ruel deserves the award.' He said, genuinely.
'Aww, that's sweet.' I said, smiling widely.
I turned to the stage as I watched Ruel present his speech. He thanked all of the people that had helped him to get were he was. I knew that it was bad but I couldn't help but be attracted to him as he gave his speech.
After all of the awards had been announced, me, my brother and the rest of my brother went to the after party.
Alex went to talk to some of his friends that were at the after party, leaving me with my parents. I sighed and looked around the venue, meeting eyes with someone familiar. Ruel. I smiled and decided to walk over to him.
'Congratulations on your award.' I said, happily.
'Thank you, I'm sorry that your brother didn't win the award.' He genuinely.
'No it's ok, he said that you completely deserved it.' I replied.
'Aww thank you, uh um would like to dance?' He asked.
'Yeah, would like to.' I smiled.
'Let's go.' He said.
We went to the dance floor and danced, obviously. Ruel tripped multiple times, since he was so tall. It wasn't awkward, we got on really well and were laughing at almost everything.
'Hey, y/n.' My brother said as he walked past us. 'Why are you dancing with Ruel?' He asked.
'I uh um-' I stuttered, not knowing what to say.
'She's dancing with me because I asked her to dance.' Ruel said, confidently.
'Please don't get annoyed, I'm just dancing with him, Alex.' I groaned.
'I'm not going to as long as he doesn't try anything.' He said, glaring at Ruel.
'Don't worry I'm not planning on it.' Ruel laughed, putting my brother at ease.
My brother left and I continued dancing, laughing and joking with Ruel.
'Hey, I was wondering if I could get your number.' He asked sweetly, looking as if he was preparing himself for rejection.
'Yeah, sure!' I smiled, giving him my phone to put his number into.
He smiled at me and twirled me round after giving me my phone back.
I looked to my left to see my brother signalling that my family were about to leave.
'Oh I have to leave.' I said, a pang of sadness in my voice.
'Don't be sad, I'll text you.' He said, caressing my cheek.
'I'll text you later then.' I smiled walking away from him.
'Bye.' He relied.
I was sat in the car next to my brother, thinking over all of the sweet things that he said to me whilst we were dancing.
'How did dancing with Ruel go?' My mum asked, wiggling her eyebrows.
'He was really sweet and he gave me his number.' I smiled. As I said this, I felt my phone buzz in my pocket.

Hey y/n, it's Ruel, I was just wondering what you are doing this weekend xI smiled to myself and replied, organising a 'date' with him on the following Saturday.
